Mikaela saw her and smiled, taking out her earbuds. She’d just dyed streaks of her hair pink. She put the mp3 player safely in her bag. “Hi, long time no see.”
“I can’t believe you got a real pole.” Mikaela smiled with a head shake. “But yeah I’m doing this.”
Mikaela winced as she saw her land in the shrub. She grabbed the pole and vaulted over herself. She made sure to land away from the mud, though slipped and scraped her knees.
She walked over to Sullivan. “Are you okay?” She asked worriedly, her accent thick.
She walked over to Sullivan. “Are you okay?” She asked worriedly, her accent thick.
Mikaela shruggged. “I wasn’t too good.” She said, lending a hand out to Sullivan.
“Slipped on the landing though. Scraped up my knees.” She said, looking down at her knees.
“Slipped on the landing though. Scraped up my knees.” She said, looking down at her knees.
“Well you landed on the mud so.” Mikaela shrugged. “Mine was mediocre I guess. Not too bad.”
She never let herself feel like she was special or important. Or that she’d had ever done anything special or important.

“More like truthful.” Mikaela said, using her jacket that had been wrapped around her waist to wipe off the blood from her knees, using the sleeve.
“I’ve never been anything other than mediocre, or done anything that wasn’t mediocre or worse.” Mikaela argued. “That’s the truth.”
Mikaela sighed. “That’s all I’ve been told my whole life from the people whose opinions I value so yes always.” She sat down by Sullivan.
“Your opinion does matter but it’s hard to change my mind about this when it’s all I’ve heard for sixteen whole years. Your opinion matters. A lot. But that doesn’t erase all the stuff I’ve previously heard.” Mikaela explained.
“I think you’d look nice with pink but it all comes down to whether or not you want to look ‘darker’.” She put air quotes around darker.
“Oooh-that’d look good!” Mikaela said, looking at Sullivan as if she was picturing her with the highlights.
Mikaela watched before dipping in her hand. The water was cool, not quite cold but certainly not hot or warm even.
"Oh, no, l'm a lesbian." Mikaela said, looking down into the creek. "I don't date too often though."
Mikaela looked up at her with a smile. She was quite relieved that Sullivan wasn’t weirded out or repulsed by the fact she was a lesbian. “Yeah.” She said simply, not knowing what else to say.
“Mikaela smiled. “Yeah, you did answer that. I just forgot. Sorry.” Her knees were bleeding pretty heavily now.
“I think that’d be beneficial to both of us.” Mikaela said. By her standards, her cuts were nothing, but Sullivan’s looked pretty nasty. She stood up, wincing in pain as she bent her knee.
Mikaela’s eyes widened but she smiled still. The smile stopped at her mouth and didn’t make it to her eyes.
“Thanks.” She said, before summoning a long bone to use as support instead.

Mikaela laughed. “More like legy. Femur-y? I give up.” She said with a sigh and a head shake. “But yes, it is handy.”
"It was something I saw some other campers do. I think I accidently made a magical thing." he said, laughing.
