Surrender question

I’m using by first book I got published (an English professor once compared it to The Pilgrim’s Progress) as an example for this topic to discuss. It is mostly a linear plot but not a story for which I created an outline. In fact, I personally have never written a story with a pre-formed outline in mind. I enjoy the freedom of random thoughts driving my story, always have. That being said, I certainly go back and edit as I believe to edit is divine.

I guess linear vs. nonlinear plots would be another topic for another day, but for now I’m just interested in outlines or no outlines.

I’d like to see what your thoughts are from you writers/readers here on Goodreads regarding this subject. Yes or no to outlines, and why?
