⚰️what character would you most like to spend a rainy day with? --> kyung-soon because she's just so cute! she's like a little cinnamon bun and she seems like such a fun person to hang around with as well as being a master thief. she also seems to just listen to music and chill which is appealing to me cause there's no stress to make effort for convo.

My favourite thing was that this book was filled with anything fall to start off my autumn mood. Autumn in Italy just seemed so perfect and aesthetically pleasing, and reading about chestnuts, leaves, harvest and the autumn smells just put me right in the autumn mood. Also I loved Arco the dog🫶

This book was amazing! I honestly loved the characterization and the plot twists in here! It was so nice how the author didn't just put plot twists near or at the end of the book but everywhere throughout it, it made reading it so much better! I read the first book a while ago, but surprisingly LOVED it and so I just HAD to read the second one and I'm so glad I did! I can't wait to get the next one! Preferably a physical version.

(⚰️ what would you change about the book? Why? (+9)) Nothing much, but maybe when Akiva's scenes came up, it had a lot of politial stuff in it that I sometimes found boring and made me want to skip it, but otherwise it was fast-paced and I loved it, and I wouldn't change anything else about the book!

(⚰️ who was your least favorite character? Why? (+9)) It was definitely Thiago, I didn't even want to make my fingers type his name but here I am and he needs HATE. he is so disgusting, and makes me want to puke, I'm looking at Karou in a whole new light now, at the fact that she had to deal with this hag. But he was rude throughout the book, not to mention the DISGUSTING thing he tried to do near the end of the book, and generally his whole slimy attitude EASILY made him my least favourite character in the book.

(⚰️ what was your favorite quote from the book? Why? (+9)) Okay so maybe this one: “Once upon a time, an angel and a devil held a wishbone between them. And its snap split the world in two.” And this one: “Once upon a time, a girl lived in a sandcastle, making monsters to send through a hole in the sky.” These REALLY show good characterization and makes me HOOKED to the story even more!

(⚰️ what character would you most like to carve a pumpkin with? Why? (+9) ) DEFINITELY Zuzana! she's so fierce and funny, I'd love to have her as one of my friends! I just KNOW she'd crack so many jokes and she would make the activity SO much more fun!! <3

⚰️ who was your favorite character? Why?: my fav character was definitely riley, our protagonist and female main character. although her dressing was quirky, i particularly loved seeing her passion as a theater director and how much she loved and cared for the musical fiasco in her school. her determination and way of showing love to people really stood out to me. and besides, she's really pretty lmao
⚰️ who was your least favorite character? Why?: it's literally obvious - sophia! she had no input in the book, except flirting with nathan and well ... yes, she IS the reason riley had a way to convince nathan to agree to the fake dating scheme, but as a person, she really is disgusting. i do agree, her being a redhead makes her somewhat unique but she rarely even appeared in the book, only when necessary (which i understand is the main point of her character) so i didn't really connect with her.
⚰️ what was your favorite thing about the book? Why?: i hope it's allowed to tell three because i literally CAN'T choose ONE. as i said before, i loved seeing riley's passion towards her career and the art of musicals and theater, but alongside that, i loved to see how her relationship with her father developed over the few months in the book despite her parents being divorced and her not being on best terms with her father. lastly, i genuinely loved the way riley and nathan interacted. like tell me why their banter was so adorable but when nathan said CERTAIN things to her? oh i melted.
⚰️ what was your least favorite thing about the book? Why?: it would have to be the beginning. if you've seen my status updates from the starting of my reading journey for this one, you would know that the beginning was not IT for me. the introduction was a little eh (except the musical getting canceled, that was interesting) but what ruined it the most for me was the way the fake dating started - riley trying to prove to her ex that she doesn't need him or his pity. like, i mean that part is still fine, but the way the scene unfolded was very icky to me (my friends in the gc here would know, i legit ranted to them about it lmao)

⚰️ what character would you most like to spend a rainy fall day with? Why?: honestly, signa herself. she's so good at solving mysteries, in this case, murder mysteries and definitely gives you the fall aura! especially with her black hair and non-matching eyes, along with her particularly fall personality! besides, she did mention how autumn and winter are her favourite seasons. despite her doing what she has done, i feel like spending a rainy fall day with her in foxglove or thorn grove would be very enjoyable. and besides, she makes a good friend!

(⚰️ who was your favorite character? Why? (+9)) Lou, she was just an amazing FMC, and the stuff she did throughout the books, e.g. protect everyone, and her humour and more, it really made me admire her. I could also see myself in her which also made me like her a lot more. I also loved Beau, he wa ssosoosos funny and sweet, his charismatic and charming personality + looks, made me LOVE him so, they were my top two!!

(⚰️ who was your least favorite character? Why? (+9) Nicholina. She wasn't that bad, but I hated what she did to Lou, AND the others, at the start of the book and throughout. She also had a horrible personality (like good in terms of a character having personality) but she was horrid and creepy so definitely my least favourite out of all the book. I also hated Morgane for obvious reasons, like how dare she. She's just terrible in general and I hate her too much. Her idea of ''motherhood' is really weird/ obstructed.

⚰️ what would you change about the book? Why? (+9) Literally nothing, this might be foolish, and I know the book is already long enough, but I would have LOVED if it was longer like 1000 pages or smth (ik what is going on w me) but I would have LOVED to continue reading this book for forever, like I would love to be in that world.

(⚰️ what character would you most like to protect you from vampires? Why? (+9)) Beau. He's my book crush, from this book, hes so hot, and like strong, and also he loves protecting people he's close to/loves (not me being delulu). Like I loved when he protected Lou and tried to et her out in THAT scene, and I totally wanted her to be me. Like Coco, can we switch pleaseee?

Write a personal review (+8) MUST BE 50+ WORDS TO GET THE FULL AMOUNT OF POINTS:

Serpent and Dove is one of my FAVOURITE series ever, I'd re-read it again and again. Finishing this book was bittersweet yes, but I savoured every moment and LOVED reading it SO MUCH. It had everything I love in one, ONE book! Forced marriage, forced proximity, found family, strong FMC and more omg. The characters, I LIVE FOR THE CHARACTERS OML. Like i LOVED THEM ALL, and they have a VERY special place in my heart 🤍The plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat and I absolutely LOVED them, even though some of them made me cry and scream lol. Overall, I definitely recommend!!

least favorite character was DEFINITELY brady, ugh i literally hate him so much. i loved him in the beginning because he was sweet to gigi, but by the end i just felt like he was SO fake and didn't care for her at all. he's literally stuck over this girl just like jameson & grayson were stuck over emily, and it was so annoying bcs genuinely i do NOT wanna do this all over again like please JUST CARE FOR GIGI I SWEAR TO GOD. also the way he treated knox was disgusting like please show some compassion for him because he's just a human too. like i hate him so much sir please go throw yourself off a cliff 🤭

⚰️ who was your favorite character? Why?
My favourite character from this book was Charlie, our protagonist, because I could relate to him in some aspects. Like him, I also consider myself a wallflower, a person who is typically more quiet and tends to observe and understand. but this book also showed me that sometimes, it's not enough to just stand on the sidelines, but to live in the present.

⚰️ what was your favorite quote from the book? Why?
One of my favourite quotes from the book was, "We accept the love we think we deserve." This quote was really eye-opening to me and I think it's so true. Because love depends on what we think we deserve for ourselves. For example, if one doesn't believe that they deserve love, they may be okay staying in a bad relationship. I just think it's really meaningful!

⚰️ what moment from the book would you most like to happen to you? Why?
Definitely the scene at the end where Charlie was driving through the tunnel, I feel like that was a really meaningful scene. I don't even care about the literal scene, I just want to experience that feeling of really being there in the moment and feeling "infinite," as Charlie had described the feeling in the book.

⚰️ what would you change about the book? Why?
i would definitely change the pacing of the book. although i did like the first half, i felt that it was really slow and it didn’t get to the plot mentioned in the premise until like halfway. i would’ve rated it higher, possibly even higher than 4.5, if the pacing was faster, because then i would’ve been engaged and probably would’ve finished this in a day or two instead of a whole week. other than that i really liked this book though.

⚰️ what character would you most like to spend a rainy fall day with? Why?
i would want to spend a rainy fall day with blythe. i like her personality a lot and how she seemed cold and distant at first, but when signa got to know her, we could see that she really wasn’t. she’s also very strong and independent, and i think she would be really fun to be around once you got to know her. and something about her also gives me fall vibes too.

⚰️ what was your favorite quote from the book? Why?
THERES SO MANY ESPECIALLY FROM CHAPTER 38 but if i had to choose it would be:
❝ i will paint, and travel, and wander the halls at night so that i may sleep until the afternoon should i desire. i will have a hound, or three, and i’ll spend my mornings riding horseback with no one to care for but myself. there are no limits to what i might do, for i will be wholly in charge.” ❞
this is my favorite quote because it’s so real honestly. literally the dream like i wish to be independent like that and not to have to rely on men yk? like i wish i could just do whatever i want whenever i want and not have to answer to society, just to myself. and this life sounds so promising and fun too. this quote is clearly also very feminist which i really love.

⚰️ what moment from the book would you most like to happen to you? Why?
CHAPTER 38 (ifykyk) I WANT A CONFESSION LIKE THAT TOO BRO. i want someone to be hopelessly in love with me and poetic about me like he was (not specifying who bc i dont wanna spoil). like the WORD CHOICE??? hello??? why cant love be real, why cant men be real, why cant irl men be more like fictional men?

(⚰️ what would you change about the book? Why? (+9)) I would change some phrases the author used, and add more descriptive words into some sentences rather than just ''He said'' or ''He shouted''. I would also clear some stuff about fanfiction as the term ''fanfiction novel'' in the book could have been further explained/ demonstrated rather than just some sneak peaks into it, and it is also a term not heard of, in general fandoms. Also, provide names for the POV in the chapter, as they got muddled up quite often (It's a five POV book).

(⚰️ what character would you most like to spend a rainy fall day with? Why? (+9))
There isn't anyone specific I want to spend time with, but perhaps I'd like to spend a rainy fall day with Joey. He was kind-hearted, and fun to be with throughout the whole book, and I enjoyed reading his perspective in a lot of things and to see him overcome his fears, that were perpetually demonstrated at the start of the book and throughout. He would, in my opinion, offer comfort or/ and an insightful speech or what he thinks I should do in some situations, which would be nice to hear.

(⚰️ what was your favorite quote from the book? Why? (+9))

Honestly? Some quotes that really caught my attention were ones that would most likely resonate with celebrities or people that face backlash or hidden agendas/motives/hate/attention from other people, (usually famous people, or people usually observed/ interacted with/ generate attention.
- “People get addicted to the fantasy you provide them, and then turn on you the second you can't five it to them anymore.”
- “It's a tough world to find yourself in, but an even tougher one to be yourself in”
It honestly gives me a new perspective on lives of people who are celebrities/ garner a lot of attention.

(⚰️ what moment from the book would you most like to happen to you? Why?(+9))
Maybe when Mo was driving in the speedy car (I can't remember what it was, wait, it was the Porsche!) and she was with Cash and she learned a very important lesson, one which I agree AND disagree with if I'm being honest. But it was very insightful and provided a moment to escape from the disdain that so perpetually dominates the World these days.

(⚰️ what was your favorite thing about the book? Why?(+9)) My favourite thing about the book was most likely, how Cofer demonstrated the importance of various topics in the world, and how he explored a perspective about famous people that certainly varied from what certain people thought. Examples are: racism, lgbtq, the issues celebrities//people of high attention face, paparazzi, the importance of friendship, various cancer types awareness and more.

(⚰️ what character would you most like to spend a rainy fall day with? Why? (+9) Perhaps Mo, she was a character that was portrayed in a positive way AND negative at some times. Overall, I would like to spend a rainy day with her, since we have some things in common. We both write fics, and though, I'm not going to pursue it as a career, it still will be pervasive to accompany throughout, as a hobby (as it is for me now), I believe sharing insightful remarks and talks about writing would make for a pretty nice afternoon, don't you think?

Personal review (+8): The book explores negative and positive impacts and topics in life, and I would recommend this book to teens//young adults as I feel it would be insightful and though not factual (as in a textbook), it would provide a necessary definition and insight into one's life that deals with issues explored in the book and generally, world-wide. It was fast-paced, which I appreciate, the characters were easily differentiated, and a nice read overall.

⚰️ who was your favorite character? Why?
my favourite character was aiden, our mmc, because he's honestly my idealistic guy. like, he loves reading and writing, he wears sweaters, and is just overall so thoughtful and caring. but i think it's also tied with rosie because i could relate to her, being a romance addict and hopeless romantic. she was so cute and also strong and resilient when standing for the things and people she cares about.

⚰️ what would you change about the book? Why?
one thing I have to mention is that when there were excerpts from rosie and aiden's novel they were co-writing, and though i adored those excerpts, i wish that they were tweaked a little from the actual real-life scenes. They basically just repeated their in-person interactions exactly into their book and that was a little unrealistic.

⚰️ what was your favorite quote from the book? Why?
there were lots of good quotes (and banter!) in this book but one of my favourites is
"But what makes romance novels so good is the fact that they’re a complex dive into human emotion. There’s so much more to a romance than just love."
I like this quote because I think it shows that sometimes people belittle the romance genre. Obviously, love is a huge theme in romances, but I think the author was trying to communicate that it's not always just that and that the romance genre can delve into other human emotions and struggles just like literary fiction can.

⚰️ what moment from the book would you most like to happen to you? Why?
to be honest...like the whole book. i wanna meet a cute, literate guy at an nyu creative writing class and have to co-write a book with him 🤭 and there were lots of other cute scenes as well; aiden shared half his pasta with rosie, they even went book shopping together and he bought her books because she was tight on money, so sweet. and also when they spent christmas together so neither one of them would be lonely, that was so wholesome.

⚰️ what character would you most like to carve a pumpkin with? Why?
I'd want to carve a pumpkin with rosie because I think she'd make the activity even more fun. She's such a cute and bubbly character and i'd love chatting with her and getting to know her better while carving pumpkins. I'd want to talk to her about her experiences with moving to new york while her family is in tennessee and how she deals with being apart from them for so long, because one day, I aspire to move away for university as well.

⚰️ what character would you most like to spend a rainy fall day with? Why?
Probably aiden, because I can just imagine that we'd be sitting in comfortable silence and writing books or reading or something. I feel like that would be a nice way to spend a rainy fall afternoon, because I love doing more solitary activities most of the time, but I also love being accompanied and not feeling lonely while I'm doing them. and i'd say we're both more calm, so i feel like my and aiden's disposition would match perfectly!

i haven't written my real review and probs won't for a while so this'll do. i really enjoyed this one, to be frank. it's the second book in the series, and after i finished the first one i came to know that this one takes place in one day! that really shocked me and i was intrigued to know how tahereh made that work, but surprisingly, it worked out really well!! i binged the entire book in two sittings and could've done it in one if i didn't have schoolwork to get to. in comparison to tahereh's other work (aka shatter me), this series literally outshines everything else. i love the language, and our fmc alizeh as well!

⚰️ who was your favorite character? Why?: my fav character is definitely alizeh, our female main character and narrator. well, technically there are two POVs, but she's the main one, of course. i just truly admire her bravery and find her funny at times. she's witty, contemplative and stubborn in a good way but i also greatly relate with how emotional she gets, even over the smallest things. the smallest actions make her heart swell and honestly, this is a level of wholesomeness i want to experience.

⚰️ who was your least favorite character? Why?: sarra. not much reasoning to give here, to be honest, but really - sarra. in the beginning, when she first met alizeh, i thought she was your average caring mother of the beastly king but oh how the tables turned. she's not bad, per se, i just don't like her. from the beginning, i had a bad feeling about her and knew something was off. even now, i can tell that the third book will show more of her explosive (in a bad way) personality.

⚰️ what was your least favorite thing about the book? Why?: probably the fact that it takes place within ONE day, which is crazy. i mean, i know it's been done before, and done well, but before i read this, knowing the fact that the timeline is one day really threw me off. yes, tahereh did pull it off. and yes, it did work quite well. but i genuinely don't think books that take place within a day are my sorta thing.

⚰️ what was your favorite quote from the book? Why?
“Oh, she had never feared death. No, it was life that scared her, life that scarred her. It was the slow torture of consciousness that had done its utmost to crush her.” it's not anything romantic. when you expect someone to give you a fav quote from this book, you'd expect a quote said by cyrus, the new love interest. but honestly, i wasn't into him much and this quote said by alizeh really stood out to me. i really like how it portrays the harsh reality of life and how even the simplest and tiniest things are difficult, forget the greater ones. it shows our emotions as humans, and what the amount and severity of situations in our lives does to us, how it impacts us and our mentality and how it helps us grow.

oh. my. goodness. this is literally a masterpiece for me. i understand not everyone has loved it the way i did, and i understand their reasons behind not liking it. but the ones who did, know how good it is. sure, you don't go ever so deep into the characters' personalities, but i mean, you can analyze the scenes and come to a conclusion yourself, can you not? my point is: I LOVE THIS. it's my first five star in six months, my last one being at the beginning of april (divine rivals)!! ann liang is truly the queen of asian literature, at least in my perspective. i'll read LITERALLY anything she puts out!!

[⚰️ who was your favorite character? Why?]
STOP bcs tell me why i can't choose between xishi and fanli?? they're both our mcs, xishi being the fmc and fanli the - sorta - mmc and they're both PHENOMENAL. xishi is such a caring, gentle yet witty girl and i loved every aspect of her. fanli is brave, kind, just and everything you might want in a book guy. fine fine, i think i'll just decide on xishi!! she was by far the best thing in this book, with the romance and plot coming in a close second, and oh how i wish that ending didn't happen (iykyk).

[⚰️ who was your least favorite character? Why?]
um does this even have to be told?? OBVIOUSLY zixu!! he was so military advisor-like with his strict rules according to which he lived and his obsession with the wu kingdom! ok that sounds dumb because i mean, it's his JOB as the military advisor to look after the kingdom and its well-being and i do understand that he is the "main" antagonist - after fuchai - and was written TO be hated.

[⚰️ what was your favorite thing about the book? Why?]
EVERYTHING. I CAN'T CHOOSE. I PHYSICALLY CANNOT CHOOSE ONE FAVORITE THING ALRIGHT. i loved every moment of this book, truly. i would come back from school, rush through all my work in anticipation of reading this, and would then sit down and binge read until i had to stop to go study. the next day, all day in school i'd be thinking about THIS book and the cycle repeated. literally obsessed.

[⚰️ what would you change about the book? Why?]
this part is a little hard to answer because it will be a spoiler if i tell you the whole thing, but i'll try to keep it as spoiler-free as possible. simply speaking, i would probably change the ending. i mean, i understand that it happening was necessary for the sake of the plot, suspense, drama and of course, the sadness and making of tragic folklore. but, as an avid lover of the book and its contents, it literally broke my heart. and i REALLYYY try to avoid breaking my heart, even though most of my five stars did bring about such emotions.

[⚰️ what character would you most like to protect you from vampires? Why?]
honestly, i can't really pick between fanli and zhengdan. they are both strong, brave, resilient, caring, protective and have wonderful experience with sword-fighting. but for the sake of being realistic, i'll say zhengdan. because i literally avoid guys at all costs and would rather let rats eat me than have a guy save me from some creepy vampire, and besides, zhengdan is such a wonderful character!! i could write three paragraphs about her.

[⚰️ what character would you most like to spend a rainy fall day with? Why?]
OBVIOUSLY MY GIRL XISHI!! she is everything i would want in a best friend in this world. she is caring, kind, gentle (and of course, beautiful) yet also brave in her own way, showing strength and determination in even small projects or tasks. she really is relatable, in many ways and i feel like spending a rainy fall day with her would promote more bonding time and making of warm memories.

i've had this on my shelf since april when it was gifted to me, and i never really picked it up until recently, when i had to go on a trip with no devices and needed a fast-paced, fun physical book. it really appealed to me then. and i am SO glad i took it along!! if i could, i would have binged it in one sitting. most of my friends don't know this, but i'm a HUGE kpop stan, though i haven't been listening to kpop much in the past 8 months. reading this book, however, has reignited my love for kpop all over again and i kid you not, i have been listening to kpop and catching up on all the news ever since i finished this!!

[⚰️ who was your favorite character? Why?]
this is really weird, but our main character, candace, was NOT my favorite character. she was nice, but honestly, i just loved seeing her with her friends. particularly imani, aram and binna. i think aram was probably my favorite. we didn't get to see much of her, but i really enjoyed scenes with her character in it. in the beginning, it felt like she would be candace's "enemy" but as we got to know, that role is helena's, and aram is actually really sweet.

[⚰️ who was your least favorite character? Why?]
i think my least favorite character was CEO sang, for obvious reasons. he was the CEO of S.A.Y. entertainment and like every other CEO in the kpop industry, he's constantly criticizing and commenting on the girls' weights, diets, appearances, the options of plastic surgery, skills, and capabilities. honestly, it feels like a little too much to handle, all those criticizing words.

[⚰️ what was your favorite thing about the book? Why?]
THE AMOUNT OF TIMES BLACKPINK WAS MENTIONED 😌 AHH MY BLINK (blackpink fandom name) HEART GOT SO HAPPY OMG I CANNOT EXPLAIN THE JOY I FELT WHENEVER I READ THE WORD BLACKPINK OR ANY OF THEIR MEMBERS OR SONGS AHHH. why? well i'm a huge blackpink stan and would do anything to meet the members.

[⚰️ what was your least favorite thing about the book? Why?]
the ending. i'm not saying it was bad. it was just abrupt. and i'm coming from having read ann liang books who's known for her abrupt endings. but this is ABRUPT. literally, the main climax point happened, candace did something huge, we get two more pages of a hurricane (which is expected) and you end the chapter expecting an epilogue to a few months later because it's NECESSARY, but you flip the page and oh! look at that! it's a blank page.

[⚰️ what would you change about the book? Why?]
honestly speaking, i feel like the romance was highly unnecessary. it was a useless addition to the plot and content of the book. it would've been completely fine without the teeny tiny itty bitty romance subplot, but i do understand how it contributed to the ending situation. but still, she really didn't have to end up with someone or "choose" someone. but i don't mind, i didn't pay much attention to that aspect.

[⚰️ what was your favorite quote from the book? Why?]
“Sometimes hearing criticism is what you need to grow.”
it's not wrong, really. sometimes you do need to hear criticism of yourself to understand what aspects of yourself and your work you need to improve to become the best version of yourself.
You can never appreciate true happiness until you've lost everything”
this is literally the harsh truth. in our day-to-day lives, we take so many of our amenities and loved ones for granted, not knowing that the day we lose them is the day we will wish we had appreciated them much more than we ever did.

[⚰️ what character would you most like to carve a pumpkin with? Why?]
IMANI!! we don't get to see much of her, but she definitely needed more screen or shall i say, page time. she's such a fun character to be around and SHE IS A KPOP STAN!!! I SO DESPERATELY WANT SOMEONE TO OBSESS OVER KPOP WITH. LIKE I NEEDDDD A PERSON TO DO THAT WITH. AND IMANI WOULD BE PERFECT!!

[⚰️ what character would you most like to protect you from vampires? Why?]
probably onej. i mean, i didn't like his character all that much and he didn't make much of an "effort" to win the hearts of the readers and besides, i don't really like the male population. i stay away. but, i would want him to protect me from vampires because hello?? he's a freaking kpop idol?? a globally famous one?? i want my autograph and selfie, tyvm.

[⚰️ what moment from the book would you most like to happen to you? Why?]
alright so there was this one scene, well actually a chapter, when candace, helena, aram, binna and jinjoo got to meet mr oh, the makeup artist. they also got to meet the fashion stylists and got their group photoshoots done. i can't say much about that chapter because it would be a spoiler but, besides the uncomfortable aspect, the experience would be a very memorable one! i would love for that to happen to me one day.

writing prompts:

fav character + why: i think xaden or tairn or liam were my favourite characters because 1. xaden is too fine for his own good 2. tairn was so funny and just made me smile in any of the scenes he was in and 3. liam was just too wholesome and was humble despite clearly being the best first year in the quadrant (+9)

least fav character + why: JACK BARLOWE, like why was that man even alive for so long. if that was real life someone would've been bound to get so wound up by his big fat gob always yapping and would've killed him by now like be so for real. he just boiled my blood whenever he got wordtime. (+9)

what would i change abt the book + why: probably to stop mentioning how short and fragile violet is like we get it. not to be rude but you don't have to mention it in every single chapter. also, to have violet's and xaden's relationship lean more towards romance than lust cause what they were doing got old real quick. (+9)

what character would i most like to spend a rainy fall day with + why: probably liam or imogen cause they're just so chill and wholesome and we'd probably have a good time as they teach me how to fight and i (much like violet) would snap all of my bones. also, they seem like the least drama out of all the people in the quadrant.
