Triumph of the Yuppies: America, the Eighties, and the Creation of an Unequal Nation
I am confused. Why did the author title the book “Triumph”? Tom McGrath seems to say that the Boomers set out in the sixties to change the world and the yuppies (a subset of the Boomers) did but not in the way they intended. Their lifestyle created or added to the income and wealth divide that we see now.
For me, The Big Myth: How American Business Taught Us to Loathe Government and Love the Free Market explains what happened in the eighties. The yuppies were young people who got caught up in or took advantage of the political and business outlook that had been promoted for decades.
