This is possibly the prettiest, nerdiest thing ever but DON'T GET ME STARTED ON PEOPLE WHO USE ADVANCED VOCABULARY THAT THEY HEARD FROM SOMEONE ELSE THEN USE IT WRONG. Like if you want to sound smart USE THE WORD RIGHT. For example:
In my Chinese class we were learning names for family members. In Chinese, the word for grandma and grandpa is different depending on whether it's your dad's parents or your mom's. I said "paternal grandmother" or something like that. Then this kid was saying stuff about the "paternal dad". THIS KID WAS JUST ROLLING HIS EYES ABOUT HOW I WAS USING "fancy" WORDS AND THEN HE GOES AND USES IT WRONG?!

for me (I'm malayali) I say it as chaya like chai-uh
