Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire are once again orphans without a home. It is decided that they will now go to live in V.F.D. (village of fowl devotees) as it 'takes a village to raise a child'. The children are still on the run from the evil Count Olaf who wants nothing more than to get his hands on the Baudelaire inheritance. V.F.D. seems to be completely overrun with crows, strange townspeople, and a book of rules that must not be broken on pain of death. The death sentence is carried out by a burning at the stake. A stranger comes to town, rumored to be the nefarious Count, and is quickly jailed as it is illegal for a villain to enter V.F.D. When the man is killed (also illegal) the culprit is believed to be Sunny. A dashing detective arrives to settle the matter and only the 3 children realize the detective is the real Count Olaf. He will allow 2 of them to be burned at the stake and take one of them with him to claim the Baudelaire money. Which one will it be?
