Glad someone is finally asking about this one! I’ve always felt like this is both a poor episode of the x-files and a poor showing for King as well. It’s very representative of the quality of material he had been putting out at the time though.
I had to look up the plot. I was watching the show already in Feb. ‘98 when it first aired but I can only remember the hype. I’d have to watch the episode again. Been meaning to do a full X-Files watch from the beginning…What are your thoughts, Lee? Yay? Nay? So-so?
While Mulder was in it, more focus was on Scully on holiday in a small coastal town and her attempt to stop an evil doll that was killing people.
I thought "Chinga" was below average for The X-Files. It separated Scully and Mulder and was pretty much scare-free. The demonic-doll story probably would have been more successful as a King novel/story. I have seen the episode twice: when it aired and then in the early 2000s when I binge-watched the whole series, so I may not recall it properly.
@Nick, was skimming over its Wikipedia page, yup. I’m not close to being versed in his bibliography, but I noticed Rose Madder in ‘95. I rarely hear anyone mention it for better or worse.@Squire, now I’m starting to remember the talk at school after this aired.
