Month in Progress:✝️November✝️
Chaos Reigning by Jessie Mihalik - Nov. 1stAnd now the reread of the series is finished.
The Last Black Unicorn by Tiffany Haddish - Nov. 2ndHaddish's comedy isn't quite my cup of tea, but I still wanted to read this. If it wasn't for the GR bookmark, the book would probably still be taking up space in my TBR bookshelf for another couple of years... Overall, the book was uneven, but it did occasionally make me laugh, so it gets a passing grade.
🍾2024: A book that has been on your TBR for over a year.
Annie Muktuk and Other Stories by Norma Dunning - Nov. 5thI didn't like it quite as much as her other short story collection, but there were some really powerful ones in the bunch and I'm still glad I read it.
🅰️37. A book featuring adult friendships.
Shifting Shadows by Patricia Briggs - Nov. 8thContinuing me reread of the series.
The Forever Girl by Jill Shalvis - Nov. 11thAnd I'm back to finishing my reread of the series.
Love for Beginners by Jill Shalvis - Nov. 15thFinished the series reread.
Lore Olympus: Volume Nine by Rachel Smythe - Nov. 16thAnother one knocked out of the park and now I'm back to being impatient about the next release.
🔁2021: A book related to a word given by a random word generator Reverse.
Cold by Drew Hayden Taylor - Nov. 17thI love it when a bookmark is this easy. I was excited when this was published last year, but it was advertised as a mystery, and I thought it was just the author stretching and trying new genres, and given I'm not big on mysteries, I put it off. It made getting the bookmark easy, and as it turns out, it was his usual urban fantasy/ modern Indigenous legend story. But it's still labeled as a mystery.
🔁2025: A mystery or true crime book.
It Seemed Like a Bad Idea at the Time: The Worst TV Shows in History and Other Things I Wrote by Bruce Vilanch - Nov. 18thThis was a fun ride. The guy tells a good story.
🍧35. A book centering LGBTQ+ characters that isn't about coming out.
☃️January☃️The month started out rough with a family health crisis, so I kind of lost myself in easy reads, but things turned around and I ended up slowing down to a more reasonable rate.
Galatea by Madeline Miller - Jan. 1stIt was too short to say for sure what I thought about the author - it didn't turn me off, so I will eventually get to her other books.
🅰️25. A book with waves on the cover.
Sweep of the Heart Dramatized Adaptation by Ilona Andrews - Jan 3rdIt counts as a reread. But I still think I like to read it more than listen to it.
The Ice Guy and the Cool Girl, Vol. 1 by Miyuki Tonogaya - Jan. 4thIt was a little too repetitive, but it has promise as a series.
🍧15. A book recommended by a Goodreads algorithm.
The Little World of Liz Climo by Liz Climo - Jan. 4thIt made me laugh.
To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn - Jan. 6thContinuing the series.
🅰️17. A history or historical fiction book set prior to 1925.
Why We Read: On Bookworms, Libraries, and Just One More Page Before Lights Out by Shannon Reed - Jan. 7thIt didn't tell me anything new, but I laughed and had fun reading it.
🍧24. A book with a happily single woman protagonist.
Monstress, Volume 9: The Possessed by Marjorie M. Liu - Jan. 7thIt's been a while since I read the last volume, so I'd forgotten the cliffhanger. I think I'll try to reread the series before the next issue so that doesn't happen again.
🅰️14. A science fiction or fantasy novel written by a woman.
Life's Short, Talk Fast: Fifteen Writers on Why We Can't Stop Watching Gilmore Girls edited by Ann Hood - Jan. 8thIt was fun but I wanted more.
🔁2019: A book related in some way to a tv show/series or movie you enjoyed.
Pearl by Sherri L. Smith - Jan 9thErica found 2 books with the same title, and this is the one that looked the most appealing. So once again, I ended up reading a WW2 historical fiction. 😆 It was fine.
🍧37. Two books with the same title: Book 1.
Pearl, Vol. 1 by Brian Michael Bendis - Jan. 10thI really liked the artwork, and the story drew me in and slowly hooked me in the best possible way.
🍧38. Two books with the same title: Book 2.
Adrift in Currents Clean and Clear by Seanan McGuire - Jan. 11thI always prefer the books that follow the 'main' storyline, and the prequel stories just slightly less. It was a nice enough story.
🅰️4. A book set underground, under sea or in an underworld.
Lobster Is the Best Medicine: A Collection of Comics About Friendship by Liz Climo - Jan. 11thJust as much fun as the first.
The Malevolent Seven by Sebastien de Castell - Jan 13thThis was slow to start, so I'm glad I didn't give up on it.
🅰️13. A book involving a "group" with at least 4 members that's not a family.
Klee Wyck by Emily Carr - Jan. 15thI borrowed this from my Aunt because I love Carr's art, so I was interested in her book. It was fine.
🍧41. A book by an older author in your TBR pile.
Over the Woodward Wall by A. Deborah Baker - Jan. 15thA. Deborah Baker is a fictional character from Seanan McGuire's Alchemical Journeys series who wrote a middle grade fantasy series. So of course McGuire went and wrote those books too. As a companion bit, they're great, but I'm not sure how well they work on their own.
🅰️21. A book connected in some way to any collective noun for animals.
Cat + Gamer Volume 4 by Wataru Nadatani - Jan 17thContinuing to read through the series.
Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews - Jan. 20thContinuing to read the Graphic Audio versions of the series. I've made peace with the purge of the GR entry for these things because they shouldn't be separate entries in the first place. The GA is just a different edition.
Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer - Jan. 21stI shouldn't have waited so long to read this.
🔁2016: A book everyone is talking about.
Occulted by Amy Rose - Jan. 21stThis was well done, but the subject matter means I can't give it more than a 3.
🍧7. A book about a cult.
Along the Saltwise Sea by A. Deborah Baker - Jan. 23rdContinuing to read through the series.
🍧16. A book set in or around a body of water.
Better Than Friends by Jill Shalvis - Jan. 25thThis still made me laugh, but it read more like one of Shalvis' earlier books and it was just not as good as it should have been. Having only 2 MCs instead of 3 probably played a part in that.
🍾2023: A book whose author has published more than 7 books.
Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer - Jan. 27thI really enjoyed this and now I have to wait for book 3.
🆎Poll 12: A book with an antivillain.
Starling House by Alix E. Harrow - Jan. 30thI was wary given how disappointed I was over The Ten Thousand Doors of January , but this was so good. It left a bit to much unfinished, but it was almost a 5 star.
🅰️44. A haunting book.
❤️February❤️I wasn't in a reading mood for most of the month, so I didn't read as much as usual and several books took longer than they should have.
Magic Bleeds Dramatized Adaptation by Ilona Andrews - Feb. 1stI'm happy GR has declared the Graphic Audio books to be books. I still think they should be just different editions.
Into the Windwracked Wilds by A. Deborah Baker - Feb. 2ndContinuing to read through the series.
🅰️16. A book that fits a prompt from the 2016 ATY list: A book by an author who writes under more than one name.
Opposable Thumbs: How Siskel & Ebert Changed Movies Forever by Matt Singer - Feb. 3rdI loved watching the show, and I was a major fan of Ebert's, because when he wrote a review, even if he was panning something, I could usually tell if I would like it anyways.
🍧30. A book that reminds you of your childhood.
The Ice Guy and the Cool Girl 02 by Miyuki Tonogaya - Feb. 4thContinuing to read through the series.
Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood by Ed Zwick - Feb. 6thI've read other books that cover some of the shows and movies discussed so it was nice to get Zwick's perspective.
🆎Poll 14: A book related to time.
Audacity by Melanie Crowder - Feb. 8thI'm a sucker for novels-in-verse, but I wish they weren't almost all YA. It was an interesting story about a woman I'd never heard of, so I'd say it fits the prompt perfectly.
🍧32. A book about an overlooked woman in history.
When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn - Feb. 9thThis was fine, but it was just kind of blah.
🅰️42. A book set in a manor, mansion, or estate.
Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris - Feb. 12thI meant to read this after I watched the first season, but it just didn't happen. Then some mentioned the books on the BotM thread, so I looked, and the audiobook was just sitting there. It was enjoyable, but I think I liked what they did with the show more.
🅰️33. A book by an author you enjoyed but haven't gotten around to reading again for some time.
It's In His Kiss by Julia Quinn - Feb. 13thThis was back to form.
🍾2017: A book whose title doesn't contain the letter "E".
Spy x Family, Vol. 13 by Tatsuya Endo - Feb. 14thI thought for a moment that they were going to give Yuri a love interest and get him to be less creepy, but nope, still creepy as ever.
🅰️15. A book of secrets, lies, or deception.
Under the Smokestrewn Sky by A. Deborah Baker - Feb. 15thIt was a good ending to the series, but I'm still not sure that it holds up on it's own, but in connection to Alchemical Journeys, it was great.
🅰️47. A book relating to fire.
Magic Slays Dramatized Adaption by Ilona Andrews - Feb. 18thContinuing to reread the series.
Spy x Family: The Official Guide―Eyes Only by Tatsuya Endo - Feb. 18thThis was a fun companion to the series, but it only goes up to volume 9.
🆎Poll 1: A manga or a book about manga.
The Innkeeper Chronicles Volume 2 by Ilona Andrews & ChrossxXxRodes - Feb. 18thI loved the new character they added and I was happy to see Jack. Now I can't wait till they adapt the next book.
🆎2017: A book written by at least two authors.
Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews - Feb. 21stThey haven't made a graphic audio version of this one (yet🤞) so I had to read my physical copy myself.
Magic Gifts Dramatized Adaption by Ilona Andrews - Feb. 22ndContinuing to read through the series.
The Games Gods Play by Abigail Owen - Feb. 25thThere were too many chapter breaks. It constantly threw me out of the story and made it hard for me to get into a groove and fully immerse in the story, which was too bad, because I liked the characters, the plot, the take on Greek mythology, etc.
🆎2022: A book related to a game.
Magic Rises Dramatized Adaption by Ilona Andrews - Feb. 25thContinuing to read through the series.
Pearl, Vol. 2 by Brian Michael Bendis - Feb. 26thI still loved the artwork, but it jumped around in time too much to cover for the lack of plot.
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen - Feb. 28thI got through this faster than I did the last time, but it is still my least favourite Austen. I did appreciate it more this time around.
DNF
When I Think of You by Myah ArielThis was fine, but I was wanting a light fluffy romcom, and this was a little heavier than I wanted.
☘️March☘️Another month, another family member who needs help moving, so less time for reading. But the books I did read were fabulous.
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson - Mar. 1stI can't believe I didn't read this when I was a kid, but I had never heard of the book until the movie came a few years ago. I'm so glad I finally read it.
🍧11. A book mentioned in another book.
The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11 by Garrett M. Graff - Mar 3rdI was blown away by this last year when I read it, but I kept hearing that the audiobook was even better, so I decided to try and compare. I think I like the physical book more, because I could flip back and quickly check who people were and it had photos.
The Ice Guy and the Cool Girl 03 by Miyuki Tonogaya - Mar. 4thContinuing to read through the series.
The Ice Guy and the Cool Girl 04 by Miyuki Tonogaya - Mar. 4thContinuing to read through the series.
Pure Innocent Fun: Essays by Ira Madison III - Mar. 5thI wanted the Essential Reader bookmark here on GR, and my first pick ended as a DNF, so I went with this one. It was entertaining, but forgettable.
🍧1. A book about a POC experiencing joy and not trauma.
Farewell Yellow Brick Road: Memories of My Life on Tour by Elton John - Mar. 6thIt wasn't quiet as good as his other memoir, but the photos were awesome.
🆎Poll 15: A book related to wheels.
A Coupe of Thorns and Rosé: Romantasy Cocktails to Quench Your Thirst—A Cocktail Recipe Book by Pop Press - Mar. 7thMy sister had this, so I went through it. I actually copied down of couple of the recipes.
🆎Poll 13: A book with food as a major theme or plot device.
The Complete Sylvan Investigations by Laura Anne Gilman - Mar. 8thI loved the Cosa Nostradamus series so I was sad when the publisher cancled the contract with the author, but I was glad that she wrote a few short stories to finish off the series - but that was 12 years ago and I only just managed to track down a copy of them. I loved them, but the author really should have done a basic edit before publishing them. This is a sentence that actually occurs: "When mommy and daddy and baby make all missing, they're either together, or all dead" And then there are paragraph breaks in the middle of sentences, but no breaks when switching to a different character in a different location....
🅰️8. A collection of short stories or novellas, essays, poetry, or a mix of various brief writings.
Magic Breaks Dramatized Adaptation by Ilona Andrews - Mar. 8thContinuing to reread the series.
Four Ruined Realms by Mai Corland - Mar. 11thThis was good, but not as good as the first. It felt like every chapter ended with one of the MCs in danger, which was exhausting and the overall flow of the story was to frenetic. It also felt more like filler, than a story on it's own. But while the big twist didn't surprise me, the one that came just before did.
🅰️24. A book with a main character who is a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, or a criminal. (Aeri = princess, Mikhail = brain, Royo = athlete, Euyen = criminal, Sora = basket case)
Pearl Volume 3 by Brian Michael Bendis - Mar. 12thThis was back to being as good as the first. It didn't jump all over the place in the timeline and the artwork was fabulous.
The Third Gilmore Girl by Kelly Bishop - Mar. 13thThis was on my list for the year, but when it was on the list for books that would earn me a GR bookmark, it moved up the list, and then it was there at the library, and when I picked it up to just see, I inhaled it.
🅰️23. A book that involves art, music, dancing or acting.
The Wren in the Holly Library by K.A. Linde - Mar. 17thI'm glad I managed to read this before the library clawed it back. It was a lovely slow burn fantasy and depending on how the series goes, I can see this getting bumped up to a 5 star read.
🅰️20. A book with an animal, vegetable (plant), or mineral in the title.
The Tomb of Dragons by Katherine Addison - Mar. 19thI'm sad cuz now the series is over, but I loved the ride. I admit, I was kinda hoping for a different ending, but I just love this series.
🅰️48. A book with a character dealing with death.
What Feasts at Night by T. Kingfisher - Mar. 21stI liked this so much better than the first book. It was creepy and funny and not boring, like the first. But this was completely new and not a retelling of a story I didn't like.
🅰️2. A prompt suggestion for this year that did not make the list: A book related to fungi.
The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan - Mar. 24thContinuing to read through the series.
🍾2025: A book involving a "group" with at least 4 members that's not a family.
Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins - Mar. 27thI didn't like this as much as BoSaS, but I like it more than the original trilogy. It made me want to go back and reread it though, which I thought I never would. I had been planning to use it for the PS snake prompt, but given how much I hate dystopias, I had to use it for that one.
🍧49. A dystopian book with a happy ending.
Installment Immortality by Seanan McGuire - Mar. 29thMary's still not my fav MC, and I wish there had been more about Artie/Arthur, but I can hope that'll be the next book.
🍧12. A book about a road trip.
Ghost by Jason Reynolds - Mar. 31stThis was good. Maybe not as impactful as Long Way Down, but still top notch.
🍧17. A book about a run club.
DNF
Day Shift by Charlaine HarrisI got half way through, and I just didn't care. So I decided not to force myself to finish, and just let it go.
☔April☔Okay, it's time to call it. I'm in a slump. I've just been doing more TV watching and a lot of book hopping, which means I'm still reading, just not finishing things. Hopefully this will pass soon, as I have a backlog of library holds to get through.
Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid - Apr. 3rdIt was just as good as all TJR's other books I've read. I might quibble with having the 'author' be Julia, but otherwise, I loved how it was an oral history, because I've read a lot of those books and this was like one of the better oral histories.
🍧31. A book where music plays an integral part of the storyline.
The Healing Season of Pottery by Yeon Somin - Apr. 5thThis brought me back to my pottery classes.
🍧26. A book where an adult character changes careers.
Dinosaur Sanctuary Vol. 6 by Itaru Kinoshita - Apr. 6thAnother excellent entry into the series.
🅰️1. A book with a cover that has an image of something that starts with A, T, or Y. (Trodon)
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - Apr. 7thRereading the series. I bumped it back to a 4 star, because I think it's only book 3 I have a problem with.
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins - Apr. 9thContinuing to reread the series. I bumped this one up to a 4 too. But it did make me think that maybe Sunrise on the Reaping was a little too referential. I wish it had create a few more new characters, instead of just finding a way to include characters that were introduced in this one.
Huda F Wants to Know? by Huda Fahmy - Apr. 10thIt was tough subject matter, but it was well handled.
🆎Poll 11: A book about breaking up or breaking down.
The River Has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar - Apr. 10thMy sister insisted I read this, and she was right. It was exactly my kind of book.
🅰️6. A book with a serpentine element on the cover.
The Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake - Apr. 14thNothing happened. The entire book was an excuse to pair up the characters that interacted much, and then undo the ending of book 1.
🍧14. A book about a nontraditional education.
Mabuhay! by Zachary Sterling - Apr. 15thIt was cute.
🍧29. A book about a food truck.
Cat + Gamer, Volume 5 by Wataru Nadatani - Apr. 17thContinuing to read through the series.
The Other Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn - Apr. 19thI know I probably should have started with book one in the spinoff series, but book 3 was at my library. I can't regret it because this one was so much fun.
🅰️3. A book connected to something mentioned in the Do Re Mi song. (Do - Word meaning female in title)
Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-Reum - Apr. 23rdThis one hit a little close to home, but I loved it.
🍾2018: An author's debut book.
The Night Eaters, Vol. 1: She Eats the Night by Marjorie M. Liu - Apr. 25thRereading the series before I reread the newest book.
Magic Shifts Dramatized Adaptation by Ilona Andrews - Apr. 26thContinuing to go through the Graphic Audios for this series.
The Night Eaters, Vol. 2: Her Little Reapers by Marjorie M. Liu - Apr. 27thRereading the series before I reread the newest book.
Magic Binds Dramatized Adaptation - Apr. 29thContinuing to go through the Graphic Audios for this series.
The Night Eaters, Vol. 3: Their Kingdom Come by Marjorie M. Liu - Apr. 30thThe series ended well. I'm glad I did the reread so everything was fresh in my mind.
🔁2023: A book by an Asian diaspora author.
The Lost Story by Meg Shaffer - Apr. 30thI loved this. It was so close to getting a 5, but I think I wanted just a teeny bit more.
🍧2. A book you want to read based on the last sentence.
🌻May🌻So I was back to form this month, and I had some really good reads.
The Curious Kitten at the Chibineko Kitchen by Yuta Takahashi - May 1stI loved this. It was bittersweet, but not too sad, and It had a couple of tasty looking recipes.
🍾2020: A book with an emotion in the title.
Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry - May 3rdI loved it, although the ending was a little too rushed/pat.
🅰️41. A book that involves digging up the past.
Burn For Me Dramatized Adaptation by Ilona Andrews - May 5thAnd now I get to reread the Graphic Audio versions of these books. I like the voice actors, and at least these people can pronounce the word 'feral'.
Several People Are Typing by Calvin Kasulke - May 6thI laughed my way through this, and now all I can say is poor Lydia.😉
🅰️52. A book with a sunset vibes on the cover.
Mr. Villain's Day Off 06 by Yuu Morikawa - May 7thI just love this series and never want the books to end.
🅰️40. A book you'd consider a comfort read.
The Secret of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien - May 7thThis was my fav book as a kid (and my fav movie), but I haven't read it in forever. It was funny, there were things I could have sworn were in the book, but they turned out to be from the sequel.
Deep End by Ali Hazelwood - May 8thThe beginning and ending were great, but the middle dragged (because there were way too many sex scenes). I do give Ali points for switching things up and not have the friend turn out to be a snake in the grass. That way the end was as much about repairing the friendship as resolving the love story, which made for a more interesting plot.
🆎Poll 8: A book with a cover that features a single body part.
Floating Hotel by Grace Curtis - May 10thThis was the opposite of Deep End. The middle was great and hard to put down, but the beginning and ending were the problem. I just wanted more - more story, more resolution, more time with each character....
🍧3. A book about space tourism.
Because of Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn - May 12thI loved the origin story for the croquet set and the mallet of death.
🅰️45. A book by an author whose publishing career spans at least ten years.
Orbital by Samantha Harvey - May 15thMy sister did not enjoy this at all, but I actually liked it. I could have done without the 'phonebook' sections, where it was just a listing of the places the station was flying over. No matter how beautiful the language, it was still just a list of places and about as interesting as reading the phonebook.
🅰️9. A book that has been long-listed for the Tournament of Books in any year.
On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn - May 17thAnd Now I've finished the series. This was neither my fav nor my least fav.
🔁2018: A book with the letters A, T & Y in the title.
Rat Queens, Vol. 8: The God Dilemma by Ryan Ferrier - May 18thThis was fine, but it's lost the magic that made the first few volumes so special.
🍧13. A book rated less than three stars on Goodreads. (2.9)
The Full Moon Coffee Shop by Mai Mochizuki - May 18thI could have done without the astrology explanations, but the heart of the story still got me.

Overgrowth by Mira Grant - May FifthIt was a little too sad for me to love it enough for a 5 star rating.
🍧46. A book where nature is the antagonist.
The Memory Police by Yōko Ogawa - May 21stThis is not my genre, but I lvoe the author, and she almost made me okay with the genre. Still, this was barely a 3.
🍧39. A classic you've never read.
Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley - May 22ndThis was fine. I had to push myself to keep reading because it was barely holding my interest. But unlike Dracula, there was nothing wrong with it.
🅰️30. A monster book.
Lore Olympus: Volume Eight by Rachel Smythe - May 24thI love this series.
🔁2017: A book based on a myth.

Lore Olympus: Volume One by Rachel Smythe - May 27thRereading the series.
Bone Key by Keith R.A. DeCandido - May 28thThis was good, but because it's a tie-in novel, nothing big or interesting can really happen.
🆎2016: A book about a thing that goes bump in the night.
Pronoun Trouble: The Story of Us in Seven Little Words by John McWhorter - May 28thI enjoyed this a lot. Not as much as Nine Nasty Words: English in the Gutter — Then, Now, and Forever, but almost.
🅰️3. A book connected to something mentioned in the Do Re Mi song. (Mi - About Pronouns)
Lore Olympus: Volume Two by Rachel Smythe - May 29thContinuing to reread the series.

🅰️7. A book by an author that uses 3 names.
Don't Sleep with the Dead by Nghi Vo - June 4thI hated The Great Gatsby and hate read Siren Queen, so I'm not sure why I picked this up. But once I started I had to finish. And like SQ, it was readable and had some really interesting ideas, but it just never committed and then it ended abruptly.
🅰️19. A book with a cover that has a building or cityscape.
One Piece, Volume 2: Buggy the Clown by Eiichiro Oda - June 5thI read the first volume last year and finally got around to volume 2. It's still fine. It made me laugh, but it's nothing special yet.

She and Her Cat by Makoto Shinkai & Naruki Nagakawa - June 5thIt was fine, but barely there.
🅰️22. A translated novel from Asia.
The Further Observations of Lady Whistledown by Julia Quinn, Karen Hawkins, Suzanne Enoch & Mia Ryan - June 6thI bought this because it was both Quinn and Hawkins, and those were the best 2 stories and made it worth while. The first story by Enoch was pretty good too, and at least the other one was short.
🍧47. A book of interconnected short stories.
Cue the Sun! The Invention of Reality TV by Emily Nussbaum - June 8thWell written, it doesn't condemn reality TV, but it doesn't shy away from the ugly truths about it.
🅰️35. A book from the NPR “Books We Love” lists.
Brighter than Scale, Swifter than Flame by Neon Yang - June 9thOn paper, this is everything I love and yet for some reason I just didn't connect to this, which was frustrating.
🍾2019: A book related to one of the elements on the periodic table of elements. (Neon)

🍾2021: A book related to a codeword from the NATO Phonetic Alphabet. (Oscar)
Lore Olympus: Volume Four by Rachel Smythe - June 11thContinuing to reread the series.
Lore Olympus: Volume Five by Rachel Smythe - June 12thContinuing to reread the series.
Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood - June 13thSo much better than Deep End. I loved this. It didn't drag, it made me laugh throughout. It just goes to show, the less sex scene Ali writes, the better the book.
🍧27. A book set at a luxury resort.
Moon Called Dramatized Adaptation by Patricia Briggs - June 14thI skipped my reread of the series last year, so I was really glad to start this. I like all the voice work except the person they have doing Ben. Setting aside the fact that I've always sorta pictured Spike from Buffy when thinking of the character, Ben is supposed to have a posh British accent, not a stereotypical London thug accent.
It's All or Nothing, Vale by Andrea Beatriz Arango - June 14thI'm a sucker for a good novel in verse. I just wish there were more adult ones.
🍧50. A book that features a character with chronic pain.
Two Can Play by Ali Hazelwood - June 15thI wasn't going to read this on principle because it was only released as an audiobook, but I wanted a audiobook to listen to and this was the only thing on my library's available now list I was interested in. It was fine. Not enough banter to make me happy, but it didn't drag.
🅰️27. A book set in the winter.
Blood Bound Dramatized Adaptation by Patricia Briggs - June 17thContinuing to reread the series.
Thorns, Lust, and Glory: The Betrayal of Anne Boleyn by Estelle Paranque - June 18thI really didn't need to read yet another book about Anne Boleyn, and yet I just couldn't resist. It was a different slant, focusing on French politics and Anne was portrayed as not a victim, but as a politician who just lost out because of changes in circumstance.
🍧21. A book where the main character is a politician.
Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher - June 20thThe beginning was missing something, but once the characters started assembling, it took off.
🅰️10. A book about witches, goddesses or nuns.
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern - June 21stI wanted to see how this worked as an audiobook. It loses something, but the scenes where things are read out loud really pop, and having the different narrators worked well.
Iron Kissed Dramatized Adaptation by Patricia Briggs - June 22ndI normally skip this one when I do a series reread, but the completionist in me insists in listening to every GA adaptation.
The Great Halifax Explosion: A World War I Story of Treachery, Tragedy, and Extraordinary Heroism by John U. Bacon - June 23rdI vaguely remember taking this in school, so it was interesting to get a full account of what happened. However, there were just too many editing issues for me to give it more than a 3.
🆎Poll 3: A book whose cover, title, or author’s name relates to SANDWICHES.
Bone Crossed Dramatized Adaptation by Patricia Briggs - June 25thContinuing to reread the series.
Only When It's Us by Chloe Liese - June 25thThis has been sitting on my TBR for years, so I'm glad I finally got around to it this year. I will be reading the rest of the series as soon as my library holds come in.
🍧22. A book about soccer.
Lore Olympus: Volume Six by Rachel Smythe - June 26thContinuing to reread the series.
The Love Fix by Jill Shalvis - June 27thI was slightly disappointed that she had only 2 PoVs and not 3 again. I like it better when as much time is given to the non romantic relationship as the romance, but that's just me.
🅰️34. A book title that could be a country song.
Always Only You by Chloe Liese - June 29thContinuing to read through the series.
🆎2019: A book by Shakespeare or inspired by Shakespeare.

Ever After Always by Chloe Liese - July 3rdContinuing to read through the series.
🍧34. A book written by an author who is neurodivergent.
The Cat Who Saved Books by Sōsuke Natsukawa - July 5thI take issue with the idea that only 'difficult' books are worthwhile, and that 'easy' books are worthless, but otherwise, I loved the message the book had.
🍧4. A book with two or more books on the cover or "book" in the title.
River Marked Dramatized Adaptation by Patricia Briggs - July 6thConinuing the reread of the series. I now have to switch to physical books or wait for the next GA to be published.

🍧33. A book featuring an activity on your bucket list. (Play the violin)
Edge of Reality: Journeys Through the Rabbit Hole of Reality Television by Jacques Peretti - July 10thI was always going to compare this to Cue the Sun, and while it was interesting to get a British take, it was just somehow less.
🆎Poll 2: A book where science or technology has gone wrong.
With You Forever by Chloe Liese - July 11thContinuing to read through this series.
🅰️3. A book connected to something mentioned in the Do Re Mi song. (Re - Sunshine Grumpy Romance)

Everything for You by Chloe Liese - July 13thContinuing to read through the series.
🆎Poll 18: A book with a protagonist who is a different gender than the author.
All Systems Red Dramatized Adaptation by Martha Wells - July 14thAnd now I'm going through the Graphic Audios for this series.
We'll Prescribe You a Cat by Syou Ishida - July 14thIt was good.
🍧23. A book that is considered healing fiction.
The World's Wildest Cons: Incredible True Tales of Hustles, Frauds and Swindles by Duncan McKenzie - July 16thI laughed through this. My favorite stories were the one about the lazy lawyers who thought it was a good idea to use ChatGPT to write they're briefs (spoiler: it wasn't) and the guy who set up fake publishing sites and convinced several notable authors to send him their unpublished novels. Not so he could sell them, but so he could read them before anyone else.
🅰️32. A mystery or true crime book.
Why We Love (and Hate) Twilight: The Highs and Lows of the Twilight Saga by Sarah Elizabeth Gallagher - July 17thI've always referred to Twilight as the literary equivalent of a Cheeto - I know how bad it is, but I love it anyways. So it was a little weird to listen to someone talk about how they didn't notice the flaws until later. I do think it's worth while to acknowledge the problems with out having to 'cancel' it.
🅰️28. Two books with a pair of opposites in their titles: Book 1.
The Favorites by Layne Fargo - July 18thI wanted to love this, but I just didn't. There were parts that had me, but it was just so over the top. It just made me want to reread Carrie Soto instead.
🆎Poll 7: A book where part of or all of the story is set in an Olympic host city.
If Only You by Chloe Liese - July 19thContinuing to read through the series.
🅰️43. A book whose title has ten or fewer letters.
Only and Forever by Chloe Liese - July 20thAnd I've finished the series. I'm sad it's over. I could use a bunch more of these books. And it is now the first book I haven't been able to find a prompt for.
Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn - July 22ndI read this for the GR bookmark with the expectation it might help with the menopause prompt from PS. I was not expecting to love it, but it was so much fun.
🍧9. A book that features a character going through menopause.
Best Possible Place, Worst Possible Time: True Stories from a Career in Hollywood by Barry Sonnenfeld - July 24thI wanted an audiobook, and this was available. It was interesting, but given how many of these books I read, I'm tough on them.
🅰️29. Two books with a pair of opposites in their titles: Book 2.
Solo Leveling, Vol. 1 by Chugong - July 24thThis was a good start with wonderful artwork, but it was barely the start, so I'll have to read a few more books in the series before I decide to bump it up a star.
🔁2020: A book with a title that doesn't contain the letters A, T or Y.
Stupid TV, Be More Funny: How the Golden Era of The Simpsons Changed Television—and America—Forever by Alan Siegel - July 27thIt was a fun trip down memory lane, but I wanted more.
🆎Poll 16: A microhistory.
Freedom House by KB Brookins - July 28thThere were some really powerful poems in this. I'm glad I read it for the bookmark.
🍧8. A book under 250 pages.
The Robin on the Oak Throne by K.A. Linde - July 29thLorcan goes on the very short list of fictional characters that I absolutely hated, and given how angry it made me, the book ended up losing a star.
🔁2024: A book with wings on the cover.
Swordheart by T. Kingfisher - July 30thKingfisher can be hit or miss for me, but this was a definite hit. I laughed my way through.
🆎2025: A book whose title has ten or fewer letters.
🏕️August🏕️I had some really good reads, and some REALLY terrible ones and then I started to slump for the last part of the month.
The Distance Between Us by Maggie O'Farrell - Aug. 3rdThis had promise, but once the 2 characters came together the whole thing became too insta-love and it just didn't fully work. I don't know if I'll keep going with O'Farrell's backlist, but I will read her new stuff.
🍧48. A book that features a married couple who don't live together.
Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger by Louis Sachar - Aug. 4thI only learned about the existence of the 3rd and 4th books recently, and I'm kind of sad, because I would have loved them as a kid. I do appreciate that the later editions had new artwork that made the kids more diverse.
A Night Like This by Julia Quinn - Aug. 6thThe scenes with the MCs sisters and their play were brilliant. The rest of the book was painful. And I couldn't even think of prompt to use it for to make it worthwhile.
Persuasion by Jane Austen - Aug. 7thAfter the Bridgerton disaster, I needed a regency romance that made me happy. This is still my fav book of all time.
Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs - Aug. 9thAnd now I have to wait for who knows how long for the next to be published.
Snow White Learns Witchcraft by Theodora Goss - Aug. 10thI knew I would like this, but I didn't realize just how much I would love it. It felt like a classic book of fairy tales in the best way, and then the poetry was exactly my cup of tea. *Chefs Kiss*
🅰️50. A book posted in one of the ATY Best Book of the Month threads in 2024 or 2025.
The House of Hades by Rick Riordan - Aug. 12thThis took me forever, not because I wasn't enjoying it, but I just wasn't in the mood for it. I did really enjoy it, but I will be taking a break before the next one.
🆎Poll 17: A book with zombies.
Glitter and Concrete: A Cultural History of Drag in New York City by Elyssa Maxx Goodman - Aug. 13thThis was so much better than the last book on the history of drag I read. It had actual information, interesting anecdotes, and just felt like things had been actually researched.
🅰️38. Two books with a connection from different genres: Book 1.
Fence, Vol. 7: Challengers by C.S. Pacat - Aug. 14thI wish it didn't take so long for new issues to be released. I need more of this story NOW, and yet it'll probably be a year or two. grrr.
🍧19. A highly anticipated read of 2025.
The Cat Who Saved the Library by Sōsuke Natsukawa - Aug. 15thI still take issue with the premise that it's only the classics that are worth anything, but I still love this series.
Full Speed to a Crash Landing by Beth Revis - Aug. 16thA space heist with a touch of romance, of course I loved it.
🆎2020: A book with a silhouette on the cover.
Two Wrongs Make a Right by Chloe Liese - Aug. 20thLiese is definitely in the running for best new-to-me author in 2025. It makes going back to my substandard romcom much harder.
🍧45. A book with a left-handed character.
Spy x Family, Vol. 14 by Tatsuya Endo - Aug. 20thWho knew we needed Mr. Henderson's backstory? Plus it meant no Yuri.
What Will People Think? by Sara Hamdan - Aug. 23rdThe 2nd timeline story was so much better. The main one took forever to get going and spent way too much time within the MCs head. But it wasn't bad, just lackluster. If it wasn't for the bookmark, I probably would have DNFd this.
🅰️39. Two books with a connection from different genres: Book 2.
Solo Leveling, Vol. 2 by Chugong & Dubu - Aug. 25thThe artwork is still top notch, but the story still isn't drawing me in. LitRPG is not my genre.
Rapport: Friendship, Solidarity, Communion, Empathy by Martha Wells - Aug. 25thIt's Murderbot, but following ART. What's not to love (other than the short length)
Better Hate than Never by Chloe Liese - Aug. 26thContinuing to make my way through her backlist.
🆎2021: A book whose title contains a negative.
The Fake Boyfriend Fiasco by Talia Hibbert - Aug. 27thThis was baaad. I loved Hibbert's other fake dating romance, but this was so bad it was almost funny. The characters were one dimensional, there was almost no dialogue, the plot was insanely stupid, and it was mostly descriptions of how hot the characters were, the sex they wanted to have, and the sex they did have. If you took that out, there would have been about 10 pages. I only managed to finish it because I needed it for a August challenge in one of my other groups.
🆎Poll 9: A book set in a nation, territory, or commonwealth whose predominant language is Spanish. (Spain)
How to Steal a Galaxy by Beth Revis - Aug. 28thI loved this just as much as the first.
The Inheritance by Ilona Andrews - Aug. 29thI had read the first 2 chapters as part of the serial, but then I stopped and waited for the full book. It took a bit longer for me to get into that their books usually do, but then it hit and I was just as hooked as for any of them.
🔁2022: A book connected to the phrase "Here (There) Be Dragons".

🅰️12. A book by an Irish author.
Dead But Not Forgotten edited by Charlaine Harris - Sept. 26thLike any short story collection, some were better than others. It started really strong, with the first 3 stories, but then it was very ho hum for the rest, with a few other exceptions. But I got somethingout of my bookshelf. Yay.
🍧10. A book you got for free.
Baba Yaga's Assistant by Marika McCoola - Sept. 29thThis was cute and sweet, and it surprised me because I thought the end would have the kid going back to her family after learning how important family is and with the new bond to her stepsister, but nope. No overly sentimental ending here.

🍧28. A book that features an unlikely friendship.
The Nefarious Nights of Willowweep Manor by Shaenon K. Garrity - Oct. 3rdAlmost as good as the first book. I did get a kick because I am much more familiar with British mystery tropes, but it was slightly too over the top, so slightly less funny.

Exit Strategy Dramatized Adaptation by Martha Wells - Oct. 15thContinuing to go through the GA adaptions of the series.
Dinosaur Sanctuary Vol. 7 by Itaru Kinoshita - Oct. 18thI saved this book to read while I waited for my vaccinations, but not a moment longer. This is the hopeful nerdy version of Jurassic Park that just makes me happy.
The Menu of Happiness by Hisashi Kashiwai - Oct. 19thThis series is still more food prn than story, but it's pleasant enough.
🆎2023: A title that contains a word often found in a recipe.
The Fallen & the Kiss of Dusk by Carissa Broadbent - Oct. 20thSo good, just like every other book in the series. And it's sets up the next one so deliciously. I can't wait for the shenanigans Septimus is going to get up to.
