I looked into it a few weeks ago when Narilka was asking questions in the book 1-2 thread before committing to it as her next audiobook series...

Started this and really enjoying it so far, as expected!

I only really listen to audiobooks on my commute and I'm now off work until January, so I may not make much progress 😅

I'm up to chapter 6 and wondering (view spoiler)[ has anyone thought to write to the kids' mother yet to let her know where they are?! Maybe I blinked and missed that. I know she's not a great mother, but I imagine she'll be slightly worried! (hide spoiler)]

I am going to give it a few more days to see if it whispersyncs so I can get it for $7.49 :)

I finished this yesterday, and oooh, it had my blood boiling so bad! (view spoiler)[Especially when Belinda walked in after Mildred was dragged to meet the regent again--and then demanded that she take credit for all of Mildred's hard work, and keep the dragons!!

The ending was NOT enough comeuppance. Belinda should have been dragged naked through the street ala Cersei in Game of Thrones, getting rotten food and turds thrown at her, with people shouting "shame!" and then she could finally be allowed to grovel at her aunt's feet and beg for forgiveness (which Mildred, being a good person, would give her) but then she would show her true colors and a dragon would toss her off a cliff and no one would mourn. Just for starters. I'm sure I can come up with more.

I did like the extended epilogues, though I had trouble keeping everyone straight. One of the people (which??) opened a school for young ladies and the good niece got to attend it? Nice touch. And ending with discovery of German Dragons! That was cool, but also I'd had a running theory that Miss Percy had some dragon hatching magic--since all the dragons had only hatched after being exposed to her presence... or in her presence... Though there could be others with similar magic so I don't have to give it up yet. (hide spoiler)]

Main story wrapped up, but leaving breathing-room in world for more...

I had to put this aside and I am currently watching re-runs of Project Runway from 2022 because I am so annoyed at how this is playing out. Also not cozy. Also Belinda sucks and I hate her.

Through ch 23 (view spoiler)[and while I am confident that all will work out in the end there is not a lot of book left so I have concerns. Anything short of Mildred and Mr Wiggan living happily together with all of the dragons and ideally the younger kids (because their mother sucks) is unacceptable. I would like Belinda to be set on fire by Fitz and have all of the dragons feast on her flesh but I think that may be a bit of a pipe dream lol (hide spoiler)]

It's going to be later today that I finish since my sister & I are hanging out with my niece who is home from college this afternoon but I'll finish today for sure :)

Kinda not surprised, despite the excuses I gave for uncozy content in book 2 :D

I mean, the happily ever after part had to be, but that Belinda got mauled by Fitz and that's what tipped the balance... nice call! I still would have liked the dragons to be able to feast on her bones--or at least maybe some of her pretty face and she still live through it--but that wouldn't really be fair to the dragons... Started, 25-33% in... I'm loving it... didn't see the Hawthorn stuff coming, but makes sense, really... and I like it...

Just reaching London now, and like these developments less, but they also make sense :D

It's definitely annoying, how quickly Mildred reverted to her spinster self... but I trust an HEA is still to come...

This definitely feels like a resolved trilogy, but not necessarily and ended series, it could lead to a new series with a new name, or just a book 4+... (hide spoiler)]

I was definitely yelling at Mildred & co up until nearly the end....

I would not be mad to get a 4th book or a follow-up series.

Ditto that. I wonder what Olson plans to work on next. I looked up her author site--apparently she writes in a bunch of different genres though I've not seen any of her work before.
