I'm interested, but I can't buy any books for 2015, so I'll only join in on the books I can borrow from the library! Sorry dears :(
Well, I've heard that you don't own 200 books that you haven't read, so, you're the admirable one here.
Who else has moved FIFTY BILLION BOOKS? I mean, they're all boxed now, but SO MANY BOXES. If it weren't for my books, I could probably fit all my possessions into one box.
I HAVE MOVED FIFTY BILLION BOOKS. I had to send boxes and boxes back to my parents' house because I DO NOT HAVE SPACE FOR THEM.One day I want to have an apartment big enough for a library.
I'M NOT SURE I HAVE SPACE, DESPITE MY HUGE APARTMENT.I think I at least doubled my collection since the last time I moved. And there's a fair amount to purge, buuuuut that'll have to wait.
My big purge is probably going to be next year when I move again. Hahahaha, I'm already dreading it.
Tell me how to know what childhood books I'm cool with giving away because I am pretty sure I am going to have to make that decision in a couple of weeks.
NONE EVER.I mean, I know that's not helpful at all, but I kind of regret even giving up my old Babysitters' Club and Sweet Valley Twins stuff.
But if you want to get ruthless, go for the stuff in the public domain that you can download for free.
I'm trying to look at it from a perspective of "what of this will I theoretically want to move out of my mom's basement if I stay in Ohio for the rest of my life." Because despite not wanting to give up my BSC books (though, I think I might have given away the first four at some point? MISTAKE IF I DID), do I want them enough to move them.
Ahhh yes. I'm just moving my books across town, which is easier. (I also didn't have a TON of books growing up, so it's mostly newer stuff that'll get purged--not so emotional!)I did, however, purge a bunch of magazines today. Which wasn't so hard, but I did feel a pang of sadness because they were SO IMPORTANT to me once.
I also have the complicating factor of I'm not really sure what's mine and what's my sister's. I THINK the Saddle Club books were hers and most of the Thoroughbred books were mine. BUT WERE THEY?
The BSC books are all mine, however. That I am certain of.

The BSC and Sweet Valley books are both out of print FYI, if this feeds into your decisions at all. I know it's been more difficult to get copies of the books for my library and some of my 4th grade girls are def upset about this.
Our garage flooded a few years ago, so I lost 99% of my childhood books, it was really heartbreaking. Which is to say, I am not the person to ask because I totally would have kept them all.
Danielle, that's awesome that they're still reading them, though! Are ebooks an option at all? I've seen them for BSC, sadly not Sweet Valley.Cait, nooooooooo.
I don't think I had that many "childhood books", but I'm pretty sure I kept most of them. They're mixed with the regular books right now but I'm thinking of making a separate bookshelf with them for the three year-old. Three year-old is the year they learn to read, right?
Not that this helps probably, but I still have all my childhood books too. But yeah, they're at my parents' as well because WHERE WOULD I PUT THEM. It's a problem. Mostly because I want to reread some of them at some point so. We have the entire BSC series as well, or at least most of those but I'm pretty sure those are my sister's because she was obsessed. Also pretty sure she doesn't care those are hers at this point so I may just steal them. Decisions, decisions.
We never had the space to store many books long term so I had to cycle through my childhood "collections" pretty fast if I ever wanted new books. I miss Nancy Drew the most. :(
Katie, I was actually just thinking that this morning when reading this. Because we don't have a lot of childhood books in common for the simple reason that back then even less books got translated. But BSC was pretty popular over here too, I really want to reread them!
Guys, you know I'm always up for reading stuff, but tackling BSC might be a bit , well, ambitious. Unless we seriously pick and choose. Also, I enjoyed them as a child, and enjoy the odd one now from time to time for nostalgia reasons, but I'm not sure how many I could take in a row!
Haha I don't think these are supposed to be suggestions for future discussions, just ramblings brought upon by Katie moving to an apartment.
Ha! No, I wasn't entirely serious, though I was thinking more along the lines of just reading the first one.Jess's idea is better, though.
I got rid of my BSC books and forever regret it but you'll have to pry my Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys Super Mysteries from my cold dead hands! :P
We don't do a lot of ebooks out of my library because of the infrastructure I'd have to set up for the kids to access them on their devices, so I always look for older books at garage sales and Goodwill to add to the collection. Some of my students are flat out obsessed (as they should be!)
