Nominations are open for the January Group Read.

Nominations will close on Thursday 19th December 2024 at midnight GMT. If voting is then required a poll on the nominated books will run after nominations close until and including Friday 27th December 2024 at midnight GMT.

Rules:
1) All nominations in this thread please
2) Please when nominating a book make sure even if it is a book in a series that it can be read as a standalone and not all the series required first.
3) No books we have read in the last 12 months and our list of books read as group nominations can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
4) Where possible try to do the same with authors and not one we have read in the last 12 months.
5) No self nominations from authors please.
6) It must qualify as a British Mystery as we are a British Mystery Book Club. If you want to know more on what qualifies then please read the thread "What Is A British Mystery?" where we had a discussion on this and decided. It is at https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
7) If you nominate and the book becomes a group read it would be good if you could be the discussion leader on it for that month.
8) Any problems or queries then message me.

Please note the bookshelf to check books is the old group for the moment as we don't have a year on here yet.

Hi Jim,

Looking at the book it is listed as historical fiction and biographical fiction. Not sure that it is a crime, mystery although it has a synopsis that has some crime there.
We will let the members decide when the time comes with a vote as hopefully we will get 3 or more nominations.

My nomination is

That Night by Gillian McAllister
That Night by Gillian McAllister

"What would you do to protect your family?

ANYTHING.

During a family holiday in Italy, you get an urgent call from your sister.

There's been an accident: she hit a man with her car and he's dead. She asks for your help.

She'd cover for you, so will you do the same for her?

But when the police come calling, the lies start . . .

And you each begin to doubt one another.

What really happened that night?

Who is lying to who?

AND WHO WILL BE THE FIRST TO CRACK?"

That’s weird, as it really isn’t. If you look at the top of the page you linked, it’s listed as “Crime, Mystery and Thrillers- Thrillers”. Having just seen that, I sometimes wonder how Amazon makes those bestseller lists.

It’s written like a podcaster investigating a recentish disappearance of a student in Manchester.

As I recall, it might make the reader a little creeped out, so if you don’t want it to go forward, I’d understand.

Not a decision we make. If it qualifies as a British Mystery under our criteria in general chat then it counts as a nomination. The decision is it counts and if we get 3 or more nominations we have a vote and members decide the 2 they want.

It qualifies so can be nominated which you have done.
