TCF's The Oregon Trail Q & A
2 questions--There are 5 Supply cards - can one person read for 2 to get all the cards for the team?
--Can you give an example for the Food card?
Linda C wrote: "--There are 5 Supply cards - can one person read for 2 to get all the cards for the team?"
Each person will read for 1 Supply Card. That means your team/group/company won't be fully prepared for the calamities that will happen. I have made arrangements for a team to counteract the Calamity for the week if someone hasn't read for that particular Supply Card. Don't worry. It will make sense when you get the instructions for a Traveling/Calamity week.

Sure.
New Moon (consecutive Os)
The Princess Bride (consecutive Ss)
Little Women (consecutive Ts)
Northanger Abbey (consecutive Bs)

Thanks for first answer but I still don't get the Food cardconsecutive double vowels in a word in the title (vowels can be different)
it sounds like 2 sets of double vowels following each other - which I can't imagine - and there is no mention of consonants - which are what you have in three of the examples
I am still confused

Oops. I got my own rule wrong. Sorry for the confusion.
You know what? I'm going to stand by my answer and change the rule. It will say: Read a book with double letters in a word in the title.
So, all my examples work. Does the rule make sense now?

Lanelle team 4 will be Lopsided Library Wagon. We haven’t heard from one of our participants. Please advise
Hi Lanelle! Our team noticed that there’s two Calamities that require Medicine Supply Cards. Does this mean that we have to read two different Medicine books or can we just read one Medicine book?
Let me clarify things. This is from the Details on the Info and Sign-Up thread:
Week 1 - read for Supply Cards
Week 2 - on the trail, Calamity happens
Week 3 - on the trail, Calamity happens
Week 4 - reach Factoryville - rest and get 1 Supply Card
Week 5 - on the trail, Calamity happens
Week 6 - on the trail, Calamity happens
Week 7 - reach Fort Challenge, rest and get 2 Supply Cards
Week 8 - on the trail, Calamity happens
Week 9 - on the trail, Calamity happens
Week 10 - on the trail, arrive at Willamette Valley, Oregon
Each team will randomly get a Calamity on Weeks 2,3,5,6,8, and 9. That is a total of 6 Calamities - Broken Arm, Snake Bite, Starvation, Extreme Cold, Bad Water, and Broken Wheel.
Week 1 your team will earn 4 Supply Cards. Hopefully you will have read for the Supply Cards you will need for Weeks 2 and 3.
Week 4 your team will request a Supply Card.
Week 7 your team will request 2 more Supply Cards.
Does that make sense?

I think i was under the impression we could only read 1 bk a week But you seem to be saying we can read 6 bks to cover all.calamities if we wish/ want to
Me again ..ive read your above message again So we only read for 4 calamitie cards and hope that we pick the 4 correct ones for following weeks calamities

Correct. If you get a Calamity that you don't have a Supply Card, no worries. I have provided several ways for your team to deal with it. You'll see when you get Week 2's instructions.

Lanelle, You gave a sample of the team completion post to submit. Can you tell us what the individual team member needs to have in their completion post. I didn't see that anywhere.

Hi. I have a doubt about this rule:"You can't begin reading your book until Monday morning, 12:01 a.m. your time."
Does this refer to each round or the start of the challenge?
For eg., if I start reading a book in round 1, complete it in round 3, can I use it for a task in round 3?
Thanks.
Preeti wrote: "...if I start reading a book in round 1, complete it in round 3, can I use it for a task in round 3?"
You need to begin and finish a book for a task during that specific Week. A book that you started reading in one Week won't work for a different Week.

Thanks, Lanelle! I thought as much but wanted to verify it.

Personal Completion Posts need to be in by midnight at the latest. Sooner is better.
Team Completion Posts can be made when everyone has checked in. Monday morning is okay if there is someone on the team that posted late Sunday night.

If a supply card is used due to a calamity...do we need to read another book to replenish what we used in week 1. Or do the cards remain as supply until week 4 when we do a "Supply Card" read?
Mrs W wrote: "If a supply card is used due to a calamity...do we need to read another book to replenish what we used in week 1."
No. Weeks 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 are traveling days. Everyone will read a book to go the 70 miles, unless someone on the team needs to read a book to counteract the Calamity Card.

Weeks 4 and 7 are rest days. You can read any 140+ page book you'd like. Each team will decide which Supply Card(s) to restock on those Weeks. You will not need to 'read' for the Supply Cards.

To clarify, "task to counteract the Calamity" (because *of course* we got the one we're not supplied for *lol*) means the week 1 task to get that supply card?
