Just wondering why references to the Giller Prize have been removed this year? Is it because of the controversy or something else?

Hi Allison - honestly, I just broadened it to a prize category as it gives more options to read other prize offerings... and not have to wait all the way until November for the final list. Of course, this square can be a Giller book.

every year, I change up the BINGO and only leave a couple squares the same (namely Canada Reads which seems to have the biggest following in this group)

I’m starting at the top for Bingo and so if anyone wants any suggestions here are a few I’ve thought of. Anne-Marie Macdonald came to mind-I don’t think she’s written a short book. And A Fine Balance is another. Today I was at a used bookstore and I saw that Linden Macintyre has two novels which are just over four hundred pages and Serum or Surum by Greg Hollingsworth is enormous-the pagination is odd so I couldn’t get the total but it’s huge.

I was on my way to drop books off at the library and I passed the best little free library I know of. They stamp all of their books with a little free library stamp. This house has very literate readers and to my surprise there was a Canadian NCL book by Gwendelyn Mcewan which is over four hundred pages., The novel is from the forties. Four hundred pages really daunt me- I did a lot of them in university but with my tik tok brain it’s now a huge reading mountain to climb.

it always makes me smile to think of the impact of LFLs.... I have been ignoring mine a bit and should likely go outside and weed it out and curate it.thanks for the reminder!!

I made a mistake with one of the 400 page books. The correct book is Wind without Rain . It is 506 pages.

I finished We Could Be Rats today and am using it for square B4, as both Thanksgiving and Christmas are included in this novel.

I have never heard of that book and will have to look it up!
