One of my Christmas presents was Steam on the Line, by Philip Turner, which was a good as I expected it would be, so I thought I'd plug his books. In the 1960s and 70s he wrote a group of children's books set in the fiction town of Darnley Mills, some historical fiction (like Steam on the Line and Dunkirk Summer) and others about contemporary boys having adventures, the first of which is Colonel Sheperton's Clock. My most favorite of his books is the third contemporary one, Sea Peril, Any of the rest of you fans of his? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_...

I remember reading Philip Turner when I was young. The stories that have stayed in my mind were War on the Darnel, The Grange at High Force and Colonel Sheperton's Clock. I would recommend any of them.
Some of them may have been given different titles in the United States.
