Play Book Tag discussion

This was an extremely fun read for me, for both nerdy and nostalgic reasons. The main character is a sociologist working for a research company in the 1990’s. I really enjoyed the workplace setting, with researchers from different fields. She’s studying fads, trying to determine causal factors. The book is full of fun side anecdotes about all sorts of fads throughout the 20th century. The book also describes what is going on in the workplace, and includes many of the management trends or fads during those decades. These were things that I was learning, teaching, and implementing during a very exciting time in my career. She wins a huge opportunity because of an insight that also won me one of my first big projects. This made me feel very connected to her. The book also allowed me many opportunities to laugh at my younger self and others from that time. I even enjoyed the discussion of statistics and research design, mainly I admit because it made me feel a lot smarter than I’ve been feeling lately.

Then came the sheep! The story has a lot of humor in it. It gets gets a little too wild, but I was happy enough that I didn’t care. I noticed a few other other reviewers were more enthusiastic than their ratings would suggest, probably because of some weird plot turns toward the end. I know that others won’t love this book as much as I did. I hope I managed to warn away the people who might hate it.

Added - I just noticed that the book has a lot of science fiction tags, but I think that’s misleading. The author was a little ahead of the curve on some of the social science research and chaos theory, but this isn’t like her time travel books.
