Reading this today, right on time I guess...

The premise of this, immediately made me think of the phenomena of a school clock creeping along when you just want class/school to end for the day...

I liked some moments, but for the most part it just slid across me like half these books do...

This seems to have a wide range of characters in it, from Death & Susan to Nanny Ogg, and others...

Full of puns and references, as usual, like Jeremy Clockson / Jeremy Clarkson (the Top Gear guy)...

Narilka | 5879 comments I am finally starting!!!!!

This was my favorite Death book in my original read. We'll see if it can beat out Hogfather this time around.

Narilka | 5879 comments Given how little talk there is on this thread, do you think it's just us finishing up the Discworld?

I dunno... I think Nirkatze is, but she fell behind on commenting in October... she mentioned still having some books to go back and commenting on in one of our threads recently... we lost most of the rest, since the group quieted down, I think...

Nirkatze is a few months behind, RachelG is one month behind...

Narilka | 5879 comments Hopefully things perk back up end of December for Discworld. I definitely plan to complete the series and was going to request threads for the next 6 books next month.

message 8: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 1389 comments I forgot this one... I will have to go back and read it.

Narilka | 5879 comments Ahhh, a philosophical opening:

I remember yesterday," said Wen thoughtfully. "But the memory is in my head now. Was yesterday real? Or is it only the memory that is real? Truly, yesterday I was not born."

hehehe

I'm ride or die until the end... Nirkatze usually is, too... I think right now she's waiting for the Black Friday sale to stock up on BR books and new releases we've been delaying BRs on...

If you decide to pause for a month on anything, that's on you and I'll go along with it, but this isn't a series I really struggle to read once a month...

Narilka | 5879 comments Sounds great :) I'll enter those requests just as soon as it is December.

I read this one around the proper time... bloody hell, I don't remember a thing about it though. Gah! I think it had Susan in it? Didn't stick with me.

And yeah, I'm also ride-or-die until the end. I'd like to just finish this. But I don't think I've rated any more than 3stars...

I rated a few 5 stars and a few 4, but most are solidly 3 at best for me, too...

message 14: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 21776 comments I think maybe a couple Witches and Guards ticked up to 4... maybe the Masquerade one. But I also think that Terry Pratchet humor just doesn't hit me right.

Narilka | 5879 comments Yes, it has Susan. The Auditors of Reality are at it again and Death needs some help.

message 16: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 21776 comments Yeah, that sounds vaguely familiar... I believe I mostly enjoyed it while reading. Ah well. Time killed my memories, I suppose...

Given the theme of this book, that is either deeply profound or a wild coincidence ;)

message 18: by Narilka (last edited Nov 18, 2025 01:49PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Narilka | 5879 comments @30% I love this quote:

Susan stopped. Of course someone would be that stupid. Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying "End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DON'T TOUCH," the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

I'm enjoying the various threads. (view spoiler)

Nirkatze, it's too bad you didn't remember more and could tell us how Susan's teaching style at that school holds up lol

message 19: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 21776 comments Hm, now I vaguely remember Susan being a teacher... wasn't there a student she was trying to connect to...?

Narilka | 5879 comments The Madam gave Susan a problem student both I think because they didn't know how to handle the student and as a kind of challenge/punitive punishment to Susan.

message 21: by Nirkatze (new)

Nirkatze | 21776 comments Yeah, I vaguely remember that... and I remember thinking that it wasn't a very realistic depiction, but whatever, plot.

If I've learned anything from kids series like Sisters Grimm, adults are evil and can just adopt children to murderers, so why not punitive student assignments?...

You don't need to have read kids series to know people can be petty/vindictive like that ;)
