Annalisa | 1659 comments Welcome to team Mork & Mindy! Welcome I can't wait to get to know you all and to play some UNO.

Please introduce yourself in your first post. Let us know if this is your first time playing UNO or if you have played before, where you are from, and what you genres you enjoy reading. You can also post a few favorite reads and if you feel like it the worst book you read last year. (I always find it really interesting to see what people hate.) Also, somewhere in that post please post a link to your Uno shelf.

Bonus question have you seen Mork & Mindy?

I’m going to be sending out friend requests to all of you. Please accept those. It makes it a lot easier for me to check your books throughout the month. You may also want to send friend requests to the rest of the team as it will make it much easier to find reverse cards.

Annalisa | 1659 comments I'm so excited to for UNO to start and to get to know you all more. I'm Annalisa and this is my 9th year playing and my 5th year as a captain. Please feel free to ask any questions you have as I remember my first year was a little confusing.

I’m from the mountains of Western North Carolina in the US. I recently purchased my first house and am in the middle or renovations. We should be moving mid-Uno so there might be a week where I'm a little less active.

I enjoy reading historical romance, scifi romance, fantasy romance, fantasy, and science fiction. I’m pretty much willing to read any genre although I’m not much for horror.

My favorite book from 2024 was The Tainted Cup (Shadow of the Leviathan, #1) by Robert Jackson Bennett . It was a perfect mix of fantasy and mystery. I'm really looking forward to reading the second in the series. I have that as a ARC so it will probably be the first book I read for Uno.

My least favorite book from 2024 was The Sure Recompense by Richard Townshend Bickers . It was not my genre at all and I read it for part of a challenge. My biggest complaint was it was poorly written and boring. Looking back I really didn't read anything to bad in 2024 so that's a big win.

I have not seen Mork & Mindy so I'm curious if anyone has and if they enjoyed the show.

message 12: by Bernadette (last edited Jan 21, 2025 05:47AM) (new)

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 287 comments Hello fellow Orkan's, I mean team members - I'm Bernadette and I will be your co-captain. This is my 4th year playing UNO.

I live in a suburb of Philadelphia, PA with my husband and obviously I have watched Mork & Mindy. The show was on TV while I was in college. I remember liking the show, Robin Williams was an unknown at that time.

During the day I'm CPA/tax accountant at a national accounting firm. I'm coming up on my busy work season. I work part-time now so that means instead working 80 hours/week in March & early April I only work 50 hours/week🤣. UNO is a good distraction for me during the busy season.

I am a big library user and am currently on the Board of Directors of my local library.

I’m also a big college basketball fan, my school has been improving in the last few years, but I always have hope. In the summer, baseball is my sport of choice, the Phillies of course.

I'll read almost anything needed for the team, but my favorites are Historical Fiction, Fiction, Mystery and Thriller. I'm not a fan of SciFi but I do like Fantasy.

My favorite book in 2024 was The Women The Women by Kristin Hannah . I had several other 5-star books but I'm going with this one. The story was amazing and I listened to the audiobook, which was read by Julia Whelan, one of favorite narrators.

My least favorite book of 2024 was Naked Lunch Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs - classics aren't always classic and are not for everyone, this one was not for me.

Looking forward to this challenge!

Eunice | 28 comments Hi everyone! This is my first time playing, and playing a new team challenge is always fun. My favorite genres are fantasy, mystery, and thriller, but I do also read other genres like romance, historical fiction and non-fiction, and contemporary (the not-depressing ones).

I hate choosing favorites (books most of all!), but a few noteworthy ones would be The Rithmatist,The Tainted Cup, and The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep. Boy, did I scream on the inside when I found out that The Rithmatist is nowhere close to getting a sequel. I didn't know until I finished the book and searched for book 2.

Least favorite was Witch for Hire. It was pretty much hot garbage. I read it for a challenge. The plot is chaotic, and the characters are ridiculous, but at least it was short.

Annalisa | 1659 comments Welcome Bernadette and Eunice!

Eunice, I always hate when you love a book and the next one is years away. I am still upset over a book that I read about 15 years ago that was the second in a trilogy and the third is not out yet! Hopefully, The Rithmatist sequel is out soon.

Bernadette, last night I went and found the first half of the pilot of Mork & Mindy. My husband had seen it. He said it didn't hold up well but I need to give it more of a chance, so I'll be watching more of it with him.

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 133 comments Hello my name is Catherine and this is my first time playing UNO. I am from SLC, Utah and enjoy Fantasy and Lit Fic the most but love these challenges that brings me out of my comfort zone.
Uno shelf-https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I may have you seen Mork & Mindy but too long ago to remember anything other than Robin Williams was an alien.

I enjoy reading almost everything fiction. Here are a list of the variety of favorites and dislikes for some reason or other.

Finished, loved, and would re-read. My favorites of 2024-
Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore A House at the Bottom of a Lake by Josh Malerman The 23rd Hero by Rebecca Anne Nguyen Remote Control by Nnedi Okorafor

Finished, disliked, and would not recommend -
Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll Royal Valentine (The Improbable Meet-Cute, #6) by Sariah Wilson Cold Welcome (Vatta's Peace, #1) by Elizabeth Moon Night Ivy by E.D.E. Bell

lorii (Loriidae) | 78 comments Hi everyone, waving hello from tropical northern Queensland, Australia.
This is my second uno. I enjoy romance, urban fantasy, epic fantasy, space opera, romantic suspense and the occasional mystery thriller.
I dislike horror and won't read as it gives me nightmares.

My uno shelf: 2025-uno

A few of my favourite books read in 2024
I am a series reader - start at book #1
Urban fantasy: faith hunter Soulwood, #6 Rift in the Soul
Romance: Stephanie Rowe Birch Crossing #2 Accidentally Mine
Space opera: jessie mihalik consortium rebellion (trilogy) #3 Chaos Reigning

Oh and I have never watched mork and Mindy, That was in late high school on the commercial channel, (strongly discouraged by my father), It was doctor who on weeknights and count down on the weekend on the ABC.

Kaitlin! (whoiskaitlinr) | 27 comments Hi all! My name is Kaitlin, I am from South Florida, and this is my first time playing UNO! I am a learn-as-you-go person so I am excited to start playing.

My main favorite genres to read are romance, general fiction, and fantasy. I am a mood reader as well, so sometimes I get deep into sci-fi, thriller/mystery, and horror book binges when the time is right!

My favorite books, specifically the ones that I am constantly thinking about are:
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng Vicious (Villains, #1) by Victoria E. Schwab Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

The worst book I read last year was The Proposal. There was not one thing I liked about it (as seen in my extremely long ranting review LOL), and after reading the author's other novel By the Book I have decided she is just not for me.

I have never seen Mork & Mindy, but I am really excited to be part of this team and get to know everyone! My UNO shelf is: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Annalisa, you can see the future of Robin WIlliams in some of Mork & Mindy. It was basically mindless entertainment from what I remember - it was the 80's🤣

Welcome Catherine, I also read and loved Blood Over Bright Haven. It was close to my favorite from last year. It was dark, real, and heartbreaking. One of the best stand alone dark fantasy books I've read in a very long time.

I'm also a learn-as-you-go or do person so please let me know if you have questions.

Spinning Silver has been on my TBR for years. I read and loved Uprooted years ago and keep meaning to pick this one up. We have a good number of reverse cards so this might just be the motivation I need to check it out from the library.

message 23: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments I could see hints of future Robin Williams in the pilot, but it was rough. Mindless entertainment is a good description.

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 133 comments Welcome everyone! I'm excited for February to get here. I haven't lined up books yet just completing my last few for Jan. I'm currently on
Onyx Storm (The Empyrean, #3) by Rebecca Yarros House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City, #1) by Sarah J. Maas and perhaps another but focusing on finishing those.

What is everyone else currently reading?

message 27: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments I'm currently reading Spice and Wolf, Vol. 9 The Town of Strife II (light novel) by Isuna Hasekura and listening to How to Change Your Mind What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence by Michael Pollan . Very different books and I haven't picked either up in a few days.

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 287 comments I just started The Housemaid's Secret (The Housemaid, #2) by Freida McFadden today. I loved the first so hopeful about this one.

The audiobook I'm listening to is Bend Toward the Sun by Jen Devon - just so-so.

Their covers would both be perfect for UNO!🤣😂

message 30: by Ajanta (new)

Ajanta (ajanta14) | 41 comments Hi everyone! I'm Ajanta from Chittagong, Bangladesh. This is my two and a half time playing UNO. I participated last year but forgot to check in weekly due to final exam stress. That wont happed again. I played UNO first time in 2021, i had so much fun. Get to know many things.
As English is not my first language, so I'm a bit slow reader in English. But i bought and wish to finish some book this year so i can buy more books. And UNO is the perfect place to start. I was very sick in the last few months of 2024 , and currently i have starting teaching at a school, do don't have much time for myself .
Hopefully I will be able to read as much as I want to this year .
My favourite books change from time to time.
But best book of 2024 will be Positively Introverted Finding Your Way in a World Full of People by Maureen Marzi Wilson and অতিপ্রাকৃতের সন্ধানে by Abdullah Ibn Mahmud .
I like mystery, thriller the most. But read and like other genres as well.
Looking forward to have fun!

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 133 comments I have updated my Uno shelf with my upcoming reads and I have yellow and Blue. I do have a lineup of books but I see that longer page counts do not help so I am always good to find shorter books to read to help a challenge.
I actually found one of my favorite short book series (Widow's Island) through a challenge.
Close to the Bone (Widow's Island #1) by Kendra Elliot A Bone to Pick (Widow's Island #2) by Melinda Leigh Whisper of Bones (Widow's Island #3) by Melinda Leigh Bred in the Bone (Widow's Island #4) by Kendra Elliot Below the Bones (Widow's Island #5) by Kendra Elliot A Broken Bone (Widow's Island #6) by Melinda Leigh ....etc
