I am starting 2025 with 299 books to read!
That means I have 51 books less compared to the start of my challenge (350 books)
I am also on a book buying ban and I hope to get down to below 250 books (mayybee below 200 as a stretch goal hehe)

Good luck!
I've started 2025 with between 140 and 150 unread books.
My goal for the year is to get below 100; anywhere in the double digits would be amazing. :)
As for acquiring more books throughout the year, I'm allowing myself to get new releases I'm very excited about (provided they'll be read more or less immediately and not added to the already large tbr pile) or sequels if I make progress in a series (since I'm the kind of person that needs to get to the next one in a series quick or it'll never happen).

Below 100 is a great goal!! Definitely sounds achievable. I think allowing yourself and new releases and series while you're excited about them is great!
I'm personally on a ban for unread physical books but I will allow myself to buy books if I read them digitally and really love them and want them for my collection, so that's my little buying loophole hehe.

I'm starting with 97 books and aiming to bring it down to 50—assuming I can keep my book-buying impulses in check and stick to the plan I've already made.

That sounds like a really achievable goal! What book are you starting with?

Hi :) I just finished another one on my physical TBR, and I am feeling good!
It was a collection of H.P.Lovecrafts stories and the language was a bit odd so it took me some time as I am not a native english speaker. I started on 72 unread physical books, and I am now down to 66. My goal is to get under 60 (any number under). My primary reading has been a result of trying to achieve my goal, but I have added an ARC. For me at this time I have "too many" books from 2016-ish, and my taste has gravely changed, and I have gotten way more selective in my pickings so that is my main reason why I have been uninspired to finish some of these books. Another reason is that I have a love/hate relationship with closure. I love closure, but closure also means it´s over and sometimes I just love the idea that I "still have stories left " with some of these characters/books. Anyone who feels similar?
Do you have a reason as to why you have gathered all those unread books?

That's such great progress!!!
I can relate to the "not wanting these stories to end" feeling but I have reminded myself that they will never really "end" they will always be there to return to in rereads and I LOVE rereading books and visiting old friends, so that's been really motivating knowing that I'm figuring out which books I want to read again and again and in the end those are the only ones worth keeping on my shelf - the rest are just gathering dust.

So, for my TBR it really goes by how I get my books if it is gotten like purchased then it is towards the end of my TBR sequenced wise like the older books on the TBR are the first ones to be read and then the newer ones are push towards the bottom. But alongside that I do tend to prioritize library books, so they make it take longer to read any books on my TBR, and it is always a hit or miss depending on what I am interested in at that very moment. I also like to reread so the numbers of the books on my TBR are a very loose due to it taking in count my new to me and my rereads all in the same category (in my cart not anywhere else)
