Belinda Rose’s foster mother, Maggie Smith, lives in the same residential care home as Lissette. When Josie stops to see her grandmother before her interview of Maggie, Lisette implores her not to dig deep about her mother. Did you get a sense of her fears being something more or just the memories of the past?

Lissette knew Josie's mother was not a good person. I thought she was just trying to protect Josie from the bad stuff she might discover.

I thought Belinda was trying to protect Josie, too. Her fears indicated that something more was about to hurt her.

So did I, initially. But her fear was so off the charts it made me think she was hiding something. Never thought it was what it turned out to be.
