I was suspicious from the beginning of the series that Josie wasn't her biological child. I found it very hard to believe her mother could do those things to her.
I would have been disappointed if it turned out that she was her biological mother. However, biology doesn't prevent abuse. I didn't know how this was going to play out.
I could not believe that she was the biological mother to Josie. Perhaps midway into the book did I start to think she was not her biological mother. The abuse was escalating and it seemed more revenge abuse.
I went back and forth with this. When I really thought of what Belinda was like - it was a total no for me. There was no way she was going to get pregnant herself purposefully or not and have a child. She just needed one to trap Josie's Dad.
I questioned it as soon as it was revealed her name wasn’t Belinda Rose. But then when Josie recalled the types of abuse she suffered, it felt really mean and resentful. I know that there are mothers who abuse their biological children but this felt more like Josie was her tool, not her child. It was hard to digest.
