In the far future, after human civilization has spread through the galaxy, communications begin to arrive in an apparently alien language. They appear to threaten invasion, but in order to counter the threat, the messages must first be understood.

For me, this was a difficult book to read. The ideas and plot are totally understandable; but the style of writing at times seemed a little hard to follow. Seemed to drop into thought sequences and ramblings. Also, the mish mash of characters seemed like the cast of The Muppets at times. Interesting alternate ideas of space travel and navigation though.
Excellent book I found. Have a bit of trouble marshalling my thoughts on it though. Loved the way it looked at the importance of language in everything we do.
