In the books the person who gave Katniss the pin was the mayor's daughter

I believe her name was Madge but I might be wrong

in the book, made undersee, the mayor's daughter, gives it to her after the Reaping. (it was originally her aunt, maysilee's, as we learn in catching fire)

in the movies, katniss sees it at the hob, at greasy sae's stall or both, or whatever, and greasy sae gives it to her. katniss gives it to prim "for good luck" and then prim gives it back to her after the Reaping.

In the book the mayor’s daughter, Madge Undesee gives her the pin as a token of luck.
In the movie Katniss sees the pin at a stall in the hob where the owner gives her the pin for free.

In the movie Prim gave it to her after Katniss gifted it to her before the Reaping (Katniss got the mockingjay pin from the Hob in the movie)

In the book it was Madge, but in the movies Katniss got it from Greasy Sae and gave it to Prim for luck. After Katniss volunteered for her, Prim gave it back to Katniss.

In the book her friend madge gave her the pin. I think it had been going on for multiple generations ore something
