Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments I hadn't even thought about this, but makes sense printed books would be among the many things that'll cost more b/c of ___ (fill in the blank with something nicer than I'd say).

From Ilona Andrews' newsletter (https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/kindle...

The Price of Printed Books

Is it true that the price of printed books will rise?

Yes. Most of the books are printed in China or on paper imported from China. When the new tariffs go into effect, the prices will increase. It is very difficult to shift that production chain. The publishers tried during the pandemic and we had delays across the board. The Ingram Spark, print-in-demand publisher used by a lot of self-published authors, already announced the anticipated price hikes.

How much more will they cost?

We don’t know. Could be a couple of bucks, could be more. There is no way to tell yet. Nobody is happy about this situation, but that is the way it is. The cost of tariffs is passed onto the consumer, and we have to make at least $1 off each printed self-published book, or we cannot afford to continue.

This made me laugh so hard, because.. yeah.
But as stated, the consumer is the one who's the dupe at the end of the day... as always 😤

That said... What I don't get is how some ebooks are even more expensive than paperbacks, I mean, eh? That kinda doesn't make any sense, and in my opinion, is only done because many more read ebooks 😭😭

Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments Yeah, it’s 🤪🤬🤯😳😤😫 all rolled into one

I’ve never understood the pricing on ebooks. Should cost less, I’d think, but no? Dunno.

I’m not sure I’d buy it if I saw that, unless it was a series I’m seriously invested in like Mercy, or Psi-Changeling. Even then, I would be tempted to give it up. I’ve given up series I was deep into for other reasons, like October Daye, so I think I could do it.

Me neither. I just add them to one of my Amazon Wishlist collections. I go through them daily to see if any are on sale and then I'll snag them. But nope, not paying more than a paperback, it makes no sense.

They sorta did in the beginning (I started in 2011), but then that went away really fast

Amyiw | 234 comments I remember Murderbot being $11.99 in Kindle and the book was around $15. Actually it still is, though the first is $9.99 to buy. But now they are all KU, or at the easily at the library through Libby and Hoopla and in every audiobook form narration and graphic audio or ebook.

This a a book that is ?145 pages! $12! for a digital copy! Oh and the add on for whisper sync is $7.49 but to buy the audio outright, no Kindle copy, is $6.62 Audible. Pricing makes no sense.

Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments Yeah, I remember those being pricey, too. It's even harder for me to justify a pricey ebook purchase when it's under 200 pages.

Amyiw | 234 comments And now that it is in KU, Hoopla, Overdrive, etc... It is hard to justify the purchase even more though... I bought a couple of these in audio rather than wait for them to show up as it is a favorite. Also bought the trade paperback book and gave it to a couple of people.

Steph (angel4492) | 32741 comments So true, sadly (for authors).
