20.2 - Rookie at the Top - Masoodah's Task: Mother's Day

Mother's Day, or Mothering Sunday, is now a day to honor mothers and other mother figures, such as grandmothers, stepmothers and mothers-in-law. Many people make a special effort to visit their mother. They take cards and gifts to her and may treat her to brunch, lunch or high tea in a cafe, restaurant or hotel. People who cannot visit their mother usually send gifts or cards to her.
It falls on Sunday 30th March this year.

Read one book from the three options:
Required: State the option.

Option 1: Mothers Day in the UK is known as Mothering Sunday.

Read a book with an author whose first and last initials appear in MOTHERING. A book with multiple authors may be used as long as at least one of the authors meets this criteria.

Option 2: Some people do not give a physical gift, but choose to treat their mother or grandmother to a special meal, beauty treatment or fun outing.

For this option , read a book in which a title word of at least 4 letters appears in the phrase:
FUN OUTING and/or SPECIAL MEAL.

Letters can only be used as often as they appear.
Required: State the word and which phrase(s) it appears in.

Option 3: The modern holiday was first celebrated in 1907, when Anna Jarvis held the first Mother's Day service of worship at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia. Andrew's Methodist Church now holds the International Mother's Day Shrine. Forty years before it became an official holiday, Ward Howe had made her Mother's Day Proclamation in 1870, which called upon mothers of all nationalities to band together to promote the "amicable settlement of international questions, the great and general interests of peace." Anna Jarvis wanted to honor this and to set aside a day to honor all mothers because she believed a mother is "the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world".

For this option read a book where the original publication date consists of exactly two of the numbers from 1, 9, 0, 7. You may use the full date, not just the year - i.e. 7 June 1823 would be acceptable.
Required: State the publication date.

The Moonlight Market (First published only contains one number - 0 - for option 3)

Julia (julia103) | 2771 comments For Option 3, would 14 January 2025 be acceptable? Or would the date need to be a single digit?

Fly (fly-me-to-the-moo) | 926 comments for option 1 - an author, or single author only?
for option 2 - exactly 4 letters, or at least 4 letters?
for option 3 - exactly 2 numbers or at least 2 numbers?

That would be acceptable as it includes 1 and 0.

Option 1 - if there are multiple authors then at least one of the authors should have the inititals

Option 2 - The word should be at least 4 letters and above - you can use both phrases to make the word

Option 3 - exactly 2 numbers please

I'm sorry, but I'm still bit confused about option three.

For example, Truth or Dare was first published 1 June 2021. Does that mean it can or can't be used? Or is it okay if I just put 2021 in the task, rather than the whole date?

Or for another example, what about The Moonlight Market. First published 20 June 2024. That would be exactly two 0s - does that work, or do the two numbers have to be different?

Thanks.

You can use Truth or Dare as it contains 1 and 0.

However you cannot use The Moonlight Market as it does not contain two numbers from 1, 9, 0, 7 - only one which is 0.

For option C

Date of February 11, 2025 would be okay?

The date needs exactly two different numbers. but there may be more than one of that number.

As in the 1 is twice and the 0 is once. So only TWO different numbers, but one is duplicated. I think this is where the confusion is,

Is this correct?

thanks!

It is indeed. Thank you both for the clarification.

Katrisa | 1461 comments I think I have it but want to double check before I read it. For opt 3 I want to use The Order of Chaos pub date July 1 2021.

Jecca | 785 comments For option 3:
Can I use Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet first published 27 January 2009 and only use the year 2009 or because the whole date uses all the numbers should I find something else?
Thanks

Hi really sorry for late reply

Yes that will work as it has 1 and 0 in the pub date.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3752 comments Morning.

Can I get another option confirmed for Option 3?

The Ministry of Time
The first published date is stated as May 7, 2024
So that would be one 0 and one 7?

Thanks.
