Should I consider reading The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes? I've already read the first three books in the series, and I really dislike Snow. Is it necessary for me to read this prequel, or can I move straight on to Sunrise on the Reaping? How crucial is it to the overall narrative?

I really enjoyed Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes so I would say read it. It gives some great backstory to Snow's character and the hunger games as a whole. I wouldn't necessarily say it's super crucial to the narrative; However, there are some parts in Sunrise on the Reaping that might not make sense if you don't read Ballad.Hope this helped and happy reading!
I did not read Ballad and didn't have a problem with SotR. However, I also apparently missed Easter eggs and other throwbacks. They don't add to the story, but if that's your thing you might want to read it
If you want to read Sunrise, you need to read Ballad because there are many references and you need the context to understand some things. If you really love the original trilogy, I advise against reading either as they are a drop in quality, although Ballad had some interesting moments.
i would definitely 100% say u need to read the ballad of songbirds and snakes otherwise a lot of sunrise in the reaping will be confusing and insignificant
the ballad is really good! even if you hate snow, it’s a very good story surrounding many other characters as well. it’s also interesting to read about snows mind. if you’d like to read sunrise, the ballad is pretty important to know about. the plot of the ballad is important in sunrise.
i would definitely read it. there were a bunch of easter eggs in SotR i wouldve missed otherwise that although aren't crucial to the story, reading it beforehand gives a lot of context ing the book and even closure for TBoSaS. its also just a really good character driven story that showcases how Snow became the person that he is and gives backstory to the history of the hunger games, so if you really enjoyed the OG trilogy you should definitely read it.
I love it so much, it gives a lot of information about how he came to be the president and is one of my favourite books of all time.
