Wasn't that just fabulous and SO MUCH FUN! For those of you who aren't sick yet of me saying this, or who have not yet received a book in the mail from me, let me introduce you to my new favorite author, Sara Goodman Corfino. This is the third book I have read of hers and they have all been five star reads for me. I laugh at loud at times, I am moved, I just love the Jewish Historical Fiction setting, and all the characters feel like my relatives and community. There is something about these characters that warms my soul and makes me laugh to my toes! Certain scenes, well had they been in this day and age, they would have been recorded and it would have went viral. And the dialogue, is not to be beaten.
Its 1962, in Maryland. Beverly Anne Gelman Diamond, daughter of former Senator Bernie Gelman, is married to Larry, and mother to two adorable young kids. It is 1962 and her husband works for the current Senator, as his campaign re-election, and it is coming up to election time. Beverly finds her husband el flagrante, in a compromising position, and she knows that even though it will kill her mother and her social standing, she cannot stay married to him. She joins the virtually non-existent election campaign of the dashing young Michael, and the hijinx starts from there! The novel is hilarious, and warm, and inspiring, and isn't it nice when there is a politician you can believe in and root for. Michael typifies what politics should be. Representing everyone, and a service from one'ws values and ethics. Michael is the opposite of his opponent. And his campaign is not even off the ground, it is already lost.... No chance at all, until Beverly walks through the door and starts taking charge. This novel is wonderful!!!!! I loved every second of listening to this and I am sorry its over.
If you loved Don't Forget to Write (which I did - Adored!) keep your eyes out for some of those characters to re-appear. I was delighted when certain people from 1962 in that first book somehow made their way towards Washington. It was so perfectly fitting! Prepare to love it! Everything about it!
