So did you read the first three books of the series then DNF? Or have you only read Heir of Fire? I only ask because if you missed out on the first two books of the series, I think you were missing some crucial context to get into HoF. Personally, this is my favorite series and I will recommend it all day long! It's an epic fantasy series with so much friendship and found family, lots of world building and character development throughout, and the romantic subplots just make it all the better.

Heir of Fire is a necessarily long pause in the middle of this series that takes it from good to phenomenal. HoF dragged for me too and I struggled to get through it but once you get through it, you won't be able to stop reading the rest of the series.
