so excited! both this months books have been on my list. now if i can get through "You like it darker" before the 1st
Ooooh I read this not too long ago and LOVED it! David has become an auto-read author for me. I can't wait to discuss it!
Excited this got picked! I’ve had it on my TBR for a while and I’ll be joining for the group read. 🙌
20% read... and other than the first couple of pages, nothing much has really happened. I'm guessing it'll pick up soon?
Ooh, I have a copy of this one already and I've just finished my last read so I'm starting this one today.

I just finished up Chapter 7. (view spoiler) hahaha
About halfway through and lets just say all Hell has broken loose.
I'd like to finish today but not sure if I'll have the time.

Woohoo!! Great to hear. :D
I just finished this today and the question still lingers, did the townsfolk wash those yoga Mets after they were done with them back in 85?

I was thinking the same thing around the 20% mark. Not much happening. Though Sodergren has been doing a good job at giving the town and it's citizens a sense of despair... Now I'm around the 40%, and it's starting to pick up quite a bit. I have a feeling that the sense of despair is going to stick around though.
Finished. Thought the story ended stronger than it started and def didn't see that ending coming and I probably should have. lol
I do have a question or two but it involves spoilers so: (view spoiler)

Hi Wendy...The orgy in front of Alice was a ritual done in an attempt to expel the demon witch believed to be inhabiting the town. Hope that helps? 😊

weeeellll.... why would an orgy do that? To me, it just seems thrown in the story for shock value and not because it had any good reasoning behind it.

🤣🤣🤣 Well...perhaps it would scare her off as she may think she had to join in!!! 🤣🤣🤣
I finished last night. I loved the fact that there is a real Maggie Wall cairn in Dunning in Perthshire, Scotland. It made this even more fun to read.I really liked how this one ended. I had an idea that (view spoiler)
The action and gore were off the charts. I had a blast reading it!

I wondered that myself. Like, who decided that that had to be part of the ritual?
I enjoyed Maggie's Grave, it played out very much like a creature feature. Plenty of gore and a nice ending. There were a few plot points left unexplained and the plot is far from original but it was enjoyable and didn't overstay its welcome.
Late to the party but I finally finished my other group read and really enjoying this one, I re-read the opening line three times, I mean wow.
I'm not sure if the tone was supposed to be horror comedy but that was fun! I tore through that book. Hope you're all enjoying it.The lead up to the ending was a little bit too long for my liking but it really paid off.
I enjoyed the writing, it made the town seem so empty and sad and the main characters were fleshed out enough, and Maggie too. I felt that we could understand why she was doing what she did.
The book is fun, a little ridiculous at times and too much. But that didn't stop me from having fun reading it. Maggie is scary!
We understand how she feels, her background and why she acts the way she does.
The subject of motherhood could have been dealt with in much greater depth. It remains a bit superficial, which is a shame...
I'm disappointed to have found out about Beth from the start.
I enjoyed this! It was as expected having read David Sodergren before. Fun and gory! Wondering if he has a unique, comical, over-the-top sexual death scene in each of his books. This wasn’t quite as crazy as The Forgotten Island but I love a good witch story and thoroughly enjoyed it. I also liked the ending. I probably should’ve seen it coming but didn’t.
This is my first David Sodergren read and I'm excited! I feel like I've walked into a cheesy cult horror film - my favourite kind.
This is my first Sodergren book - it was so wild! I liked it :) Action packed with gory and creepy imagery.(view spoiler)
Finally finished and I absolutely loved this! It's brutal but not without moments of dark humour that eases the tension and makes it fun. Some plot points are left unexplained which I can see have already been mentioned here, but that didn't bother me too much and I will just interpret the lore using my own imagination.
I will definitely be reading The Haar and some others after this :)
