The Haunting of a Duke (Dark Regency, #1) by Chasity Bowlin
The Haunting of a Duke, by Chasity Bowlin

Synopsis:

Communing with spirits has been both gift and curse to Emme Walters. Now it's made her a killer's target.

Emme knows why the Dowager Duchess of Briarleigh invited her to a house party--to investigate whether the duke, Rhys Brammel, murdered his wife years ago. But Emme never imagined she would fall in love with the brooding duke. Branded by society as a possible killer, Rhys is suspicious of Emme and her alleged "gift."

Then a late night encounter creates awareness of her other, more attractive, aspects. When Emme's life is threatened, Rhys becomes her protector. Emme and Rhys find passion and peril as they join forces to solve the mysteries at Briarleigh.

She made him believe in spirits, but can she make him believe in love?

Happy reading!

Sue | 100 comments Looks like you get the six books in this series on Amazon Kindle UK for £4.99. bargain! and $9.99 on amazon.com.

Clarissa | 50 comments I really enjoyed this book, it was a 5/5 for me. I loved the way the story unfolded, the main characters had great chemistry and were endearing. It was dark and a bit brutal in places, but I thought that was appropriate for a paranormal story, there was appropriate drama for the murder/mystery part, but it wasn't hysterical or over the top. I liked how perspectives of lesser characters was interwoven through the storyline, it really added to the complexity of the story and endeared you to those characters as well (so of course I want to read the next one!). The relationship development of Rhys and Emme was really nicely done, it wasn't overbearing. This was a great choice for this month, I will definitely read more of this author, she has a wonderful writing style.

Lauren | 1449 comments Sue, thanks for the tip!

Lauren | 1449 comments Clarissa, I'm so glad you enjoyed this book! I'm hoping to reread it later this week. I've only read this book, so I'll be curious about your thoughts if you continue the rest of the series

Clarissa | 50 comments Hi Lauren, I just finished The Redemption of a Rogue (second book) and its not as good as this one, but it was a very good read and I liked it a lot. I am really enjoying the characters and their interactions, this author's writing style is very good. The second book had a less paranormal focus and a more satanic focus, and perhaps its a bit more brutal than the first book - but I found that all very interesting. I loved Michael's character in the first book - he is maybe slightly more grinding in this story, but it didn't bother me too much, it was nice to learn more about him. The villains were great and very dark! I like that these stories are less about the ballroom tropes and more about the murder and mystery. I am going to read book 3 now - luckily this whole series is available on Hoopla for me via my library so I'll take advantage of that!

Sue | 100 comments Enjoyed the novel and gave it 4 stars out of 5. A new historical romance author for me. Everyone has said my views. It is well written, it is a change from the ballroom setting but the subject matter is quite stark with the murder mystery element. The main couple were sweet but the nasty characters are really well portrayed. Liked the paranormal aspect and suspect if I did sleep walking at night, I would be going to bed in my clothes rather than near naked nightwear :). Will read the rest of the series as part of the series challenge.
