Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4957 comments Restless in the Grave is the 19th book in Dana Stabenow's Kate Shugak series. Kate is an Aleut private investigator who lives and works in Alaska. Having finally freed herself from her duties as Chair of the board of the Niniltna Native Association, Kate grabs the chance to head out of town to carry out the undercover investigation of a possible murder at Newenham, Alaska, where she teams up to help Liam Campbell, the MC is another of Stabenow's series.

It turns out that Alaska businessman, Finn Grant, has been killed when his plane crashed. He built an aviation company primarily through ruthless maneuvers, conducting air-safaris for tourists and ferrying cargo across the state. Campbell thinks Grant was the victim of sabotage to the engine of his private plane. Deeply hated by almost everyone in Newenham, there are many suspects in his death, including Campbells wife, bush pilot Wyanet Chouinard.

Kate soon finds evidence of blackmail and ties to terrorists. This book has the perfect balance of setting, characters, suspense, wit, gravity, and unexpected surprises. Kate gets in multiple dangerous conditions and is helped out by her partner, Mutt, a 140 lb wolf hybrid.

Learning all about Kate Shugak and her Alaska is by far one of the highlights of this series. "Restless in the Grave" can be read as a stand alone, but many long time series characters and story lines are referred to. I don't read the Liam Campbell series but I don't think that not knowing his back story affected my enjoyment of this book.
