Bedtime Reading with Your Kids discussion

I didn’t realize how much bedtime reading meant to my son until one night he said,
“Can I read to you instead, Mommy?”

He only knew a few words, but he remembered the story and “read” it by memory — turning each page carefully, imitating my voice, and even pausing for the same moments I usually do.

It wasn’t about getting the words right — it was about how deeply he had felt the stories we’d shared.

So yes, this is my most memorable bedtime reading moment.

We have one, special chapter book that we only read at bedtime. It’s a wonderful experience because our older child (11) does the reading to our younger twins (3) and I listen. After each book we finish, I try to find a local field trip and/or the movie to watch together. Currently we are reading Peter Pan.
