When Rose Franklin was 10 and riding her bike in the woods she came across a deep hole, lost her balance and fell in. When fire fighters came to rescue her they found her lying in the palm of a giant hand surrounded by the glow of a turquoise light. Seventeen years later, after getting her PhD in physics, she is studying the hand and the other parts of a giant robot that have been found around the world. The story is told through the use of journal entries, mission logs, official reports, news articles and interview transcripts. The objects of these pieces are mainly Rose, the two pilots Kara & Ryan, a linguist Vincent, and an unnamed manipulator behind the scenes. Of course being human there are power struggles, politics and hidden agendas.

This was so well done. These pieces effectively built suspense, explored motives, developed personalities. Really amazing style. Looking forward to the next volumes.
