Who's a new-to-you author that you've discovered recently and would highly recommend? Can be a brand new author or someone who's been around a long time that you've just started reading.

OK, not a new author (he died in 2023), but new to me: David Drake. I’ve had books by him, both SF & fantasy, on my shelves for ages, but I never read any of them until recently when I dove into his RCN/Lt. Leary military sci-fi series. Not hard SF, full of action & adventure, with some interesting characters & lots of good interplay among them. Perfect escapist reading; reminds me a bit of the Honor Harrington books.

Ken (ogi8745) | 1461 comments Hmmm that is a good question
Hmm back in the day it was Lois McMaster Bujold
I knew of her but never read her
I read the Vorkosigian books and loved them

Kateblue | 136 comments Mark Lawrence for the Library Trilogy. I know he's been around for a while, but I have not read any of his before. Getting ready to start book #3

Gary Gillen | 76 comments I read Use of Weapons by Iain M. Banks based on a recommendation list of the top 100 Science Fiction novels. It’s book three of the Culture series. I liked it so much that I am reading Consider Phlebas right now. It's the first book in the series. And I put the rest of the series on my to be read list.

Dawn (caveatlector) | 347 comments P. Djèlí Clark for fantasy, I loved A Master of Djinn.

Thomas Wharton for science fiction, The Book of Rain was fantastic.

For Historical Fiction Anne Fleming; Curiosities & Dimitri Nasrallah; Hotline.

And a couple Booker nominees, not my usual type of reading but that is why I belong to groups on GRs. Hernan Diaz; Trust & Jon McGregor; Reservoir 13

Nick (doily) | 1017 comments Cassandra Khaw is new to me, though I have been wandering around her for a while. The Salt Grows Heavy is just about TBR.

I've been really enjoying Michelle Sagara's Elantra books, which I've been meaning to read for years and finally got a kick in the pants by our Q3 challenge! I've read the first three in the series and so far each has been even better than the previous volume.

Dawn (caveatlector) | 347 comments Ooo, good author. I love her Sun Sword series, The Broken Crown. And I'm working my way through the House War series, The Hidden City.

I love this series. Been reading since the early 2000s. I even joined her Patreon so she can finish it
She has added two new books to the series recently. The second book dropped in June
This series will tie up the whole thing

Kateblue | 136 comments I just read The Raven Scholar with this group. Loved it and want to read everything by this person, though it appears that most are mysteries, not fantasy
