I wanted to round out the month with a light and funny family drama and I also love the found family trope so when I saw Favorite Daughter which claims to be a "darkly funny" tale about two sisters who are unknown to each other and one has to serve as therapist to the other who needs to go to the sessions to inherit her fathers wealth, I thought it would be up my alley.

I'm a retired preschool teacher, so lets just say that on the first page when Mickey a Kindergarten teacher sneaks into the bathroom to take a slug of vodka from the flask she carries in her purse, that I didn't find it funny.

We all know about rock bottom but both of these sisters, Mickey and Arlo have gone near the core of the earth. "Darkly" really lightens up what this story actually is.

I do appreciate dark humor at times, but the inherent tragedy in this book didn't quite mesh with the humor.
