Discuss the Shining here. Please mark all spoilers for those reading along. Thanks!

Xander Maldonado | 1 comments I love how the book feels more like a tragedy rather than just straight horror like it’s advertised.

Jeffrey Luera | 2 comments Holloran is one of the most like able characters in a Stephen king novel!!

Derrick | 975 comments This is the King book I've read the most times!

Definitly.

Something else I notice, every time I read the book: Though I like the film, the book is so much better... I feel like you don't even get to know the characters just by watching the movie.

Oscar | 61 comments I am in! Wanted to re-read this one and was waiting for it come up again as the month's read. Nice way to start spooky season.

Kat (Katlovesbooks) Dietrich (katd59) | 18 comments I am actually listening to the book this time around. I've read it twice before....this is a classic King!

Daniel (dersinn) | 11 comments Since I finished yesterday, I wonder: Is there anybody who liked the film more?

Does anyone ever like the film more?

Lauralissima | 1 comments I read The Shining as a Teenager and it is very interesting, how the story feels totally different all these years later. There is such an undercurrent of inevitability and a deep deep melancholia. It feels like a punch in the gut. And my heart breaks for Danny being so young and facing these horrors. Still a great read! With a lot of layers…

Well, not the Stephen King books which are turned to films.

You probably mean Kubrick's film. There is also the Shining TV mini series which is much closer to the book.

I personally love Kubrick's version as well. It's just something different from the book, maybe just inspired by IT.
(oops...NPI)

Henrik | 2 comments The film is great but the book is better, if you really want to understand the story and the background of the characters

Jensue Ferrell | 1 comments First time I have read the book and it is so much better than either movie.

Oscar | 61 comments I really enjoyed re-reading this novel. The creepy atmosphere still hits. And the novel delves into the family dynamics and Jack's upbringing to create a more detailed story than any of the movies.

Reading this now, one can see how King was developing his style. This is a classic King story, but he got better as a writer.
