Finished The Drawing of the Three? Let us know here what you think. How are you liking Roland as a protagonist (or maybe antihero?)? What about the other characters? Where do you think the story will take us next?

Hmmm. I am going to fall behind. I thought this would start Oct 1
I am halfway through and liking it. Not really sure what is going on except Roland is collecting his companions

I have finished! not my intent, but it was the next thing on my calendar. I liked it, but I am not sure how to rate it or describe it! I will think on that

It is indeed a set up book. It only exists to put Suzzane, Eddie and Roland togather so they can make the trip to the Dark Tower

I liked this installment much better than the first. I've always been a reader who enjoys a character-driven book, so the fact that not much really happens here to move the plot forward did not matter to me. I'm loving Eddie and Susannah.

I finally decided to give it 4 stars. Because I loved the characters. But I might change it to 5 later.

My problem may be that it is a "road" book. Whenever I read a "road" book, I want them to get to where they are going and do whatever it is they are aiming to do. Get it done, already!

And I think this whole series may be a "road" book.

I did not really like book two. There was little plot in my opinion. It was more an exploration of the characters.
The crude language and violence were off-putting. And for much of the novel, Roland's infection, Eddie's drug addiction, and Detta's violent plotting seemed to have no solution.
I was glad there was some improvement in the last few pages. I plan to forge ahead in the series but the tone of this one made it difficult.

I agree with everything you said, particularly Detta and her language. I agree that it was an exploration of characters. I hope they get on with it in the next book

I think Detta’s language was over the top because she was a caricature- Odetta’s subconscious concept of what that stereotype would act and sound like. That personality doesn’t exist on its own anymore so it shouldn’t be as bad going forward!

I agree that the combined personality should be fun to meet and get to know. I'm looking forward to the third book. After failing at the 1st book three times before reading it here with you guys, I am really surprised that I actually wrote that!

As folks have mentioned. Detta is supposed to be over the top, and Odetta is the oppsite. Once they are united we get the real personality of Odetta
