Nothing is quite like the feeling of liminal spaces. They disturb something deep in the human psyche. The "backrooms" lore emerge during peak of COVID, when places all around the world were abandoned. Dead malls and shopping centers, quiet schools, empty office buildings; the list goes on and on. We lived in a severely liminal world for years.

That feeling; uncanny fear mixed with desolation and strange nostalgic wonder; that is what I wanted to capture with this book. It is the longest book about the backrooms; novel length at over 80,000 words. The story has been criticized as "overwrought" or extremely elaborate and ornate with too many architectural descriptions.
