What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter?

Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all and, if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. But after Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer.

It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life. But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast Listen for the Lie and its too-good looking host, Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one who did it.

The truth is out there, if we just listen.

Chapter 11: (view spoiler)[ Okay every time I read a thriller I try to make an early guess so that I can say I guessed it from the start and I'm almost always wrong, but that won't stop me from trying.

This time I'm calling Matt. I just think the way that their marriage seemed weird from the start and everyone seems to think he's such a good guy but then he's also quite closely involved puts him in ideal position to commit the murder. Again I'm almost certainly wrong, but he's my current suspicion. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 21: (view spoiler)[ I cannot believe Lucy's mum having the affair with Savvy's boyfriend, when that all came together it really got me good! I was gripped.

And Matt being abusive I did not see coming but with hindsight that really does fit - makes me think he's probably not the murderer now but I am still saying that I called him as having bad character (hide spoiler)]

And wait can't believe I forgot to mention (view spoiler)[ Savvy's idea to murder Matt?! Is Savvy the crazy one all along because that is a wild thing to suggest with what seems like complete seriousness! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 41: (view spoiler)[ Sorry what?! This romance is so off the rails which I guess is completely the point but I really could have done without it tbh. Why is Ben turned on by Lucy’s murderous instincts ahhhhh (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[ Okay I really feel like I should have been able to guess that it was Emmet but I did not. Always easy with hindsight!

I really enjoyed this though, it was easy to read and kept me hooked! Not as thriller-y as I was expecting, much more focus on the mystery but I really really enjoyed it! (hide spoiler)]

Matt being abusive, honestly, wasn't a shock to me. Savy being the one who came up with murdering him also didn't shock me because, come on now, learning that your bestie is being abused by her husband, who is supposed to love her unconditionally, is something that would make any bestie want to kill the man. (hide spoiler)]

Girl, absolutely the same; I did not see that it was going to be Emmet who killed Savvy. That was probably the biggest plot twist in this whole book, and I loved it, honestly. But, in the end, poor Lucy for having to live through the guilt of not remembering and being accused by almost everyone of killing her bestie. (hide spoiler)]

Yeahhhh im kinda just kinda suspicious of him too, but i haven't picked that guaranteed someone that i'm going to pinpoint as the culprit.

I'm having difficulties with literally the entire point of the other characters lol, they all seem so insignifican to the Savvy killing spree. But that plot twist was really so...,....random????? Like why emmet???? Why does it always have to be the characters that almost never appeared in the book to be the one to be revealed? It feels like a cheap twist. (hide spoiler)]
