I'm reading this one today/tomorrow. Needed a US book for Amazing Race

I'm through Ch. 2 and I feel like I've read this before but know I haven't lol. I've heard it definitely will surprise me though so I'm still hopeful

Just finished Chap 21 and here's my theory (view spoiler)[ Lucy's dad did it. He was having an affair with Savi and she got pregnant or something. And then Lucy saw it or something and then blocked it out. That's why he's trying so hard to make sure he's the one she talks to (hide spoiler)]

I am loving this! I am especially loving that she has a secret writing career, and is not just a pathetic loser. I don't know what chapter I am on--they are annoyingly all named Lucy, without another narrator to be found. But she is making some terrible decisions with Ben. I'm 2/3s through.

I started. Only 20% in but enjoying it as much as the first time.

I really liked it! I did not guess who did it and I found the podcast v Lucy back and forth to be interesting, especially in audio.

I do think that there was no need for the personal relationship between Ben and Lucy. I am a romance reader obviously but I still think a lot of times it's forced into mystery/thriller reads for no reason (hide spoiler)]

I read the spoiler, Amanda, which didn't have the murderer, because I have NO self control. Thanks for not including that.

But I totally agree about the romance. There was a lot of messy and unnecessary romance/sex/love story shoved in here, I thought. That's really my only critique of the book so far.

This was a great choice, Jackie. It's different from the standard "woman in peril" books that these kinds of thrillers sometimes are. I just love the Savvy in Lucy's head so much.

I finished. Amanda and Jackie especially, do you feel like the book dropped enough clues to make the murderer's identity plausible? I did not, ultimately, but I wonder what you think. Does the re-read help you figure out what I missed?

You know what, I dont. I was thinking about that earlier actually, like part of it was cool because I didnt guess but then I'm no really sure I could. The only thing we got about them at all was (view spoiler)[ is how great of a person he was? there were no hints that they werent until the final showdown (hide spoiler)]

Exactly-- the whole conversation (view spoiler)[with Savvy about how the sex was bad and he got a little aggressive basically happened right as everything was being figured out, but even that wasn't enough to really suggest he was a killer. And Lucy's "I should run away with you..." seemed so unmotivated, as did the near sex at the dumpster, only stopped because Emmett wasn't very good at it?!!? (hide spoiler)]

As I was writing my review and trying to figure out why I wasn't totally satisfied, I came to this realization, and also my frustration with the book/Lucy's desperate need for a romance plot.

I don’t think there were enough clues given to guess the murderer until the end.

The romance didn’t bother me because Lucy was such a lost soul that anyone who seemed to believe she was innocent would have attracted her. Now as to whether this relationship would last, I have doubts. I think it was just what she needed at the time.

Yeah pure enjoyment 4 stars. If I sat and thought about it, it'd probably end up lower but I didn't want to stop listening last night and that for me is usually enough for the 4

Same for me. It held my attention all the way through even being a reread.

I gave it a 3, rounded down from 3.5 because as I was finishing things started to bug me. But I am stingy as heck, and I thought it was a terrific book.

I'm hoping to get to this later this week.

Both! I listen to investigative and also things like Dateline

I did like the podcast side of it ..will look up dateline

I think everyone in that town/ village has slept with each other and like Kirsten said , it was unnecessary other than making them all even more unlikeable ..as tbh there were very few charatcers in it that i liked

I did love granny 😁 and even she was a bit of a floozie 😄😄
