Jenna Scribbles | 76 comments I’m looking forward to this book! The Collector was so creepy and good.

James, please tell us how The Magus inspired the song Hotel California

🙂🙂

Jenna Scribbles | 76 comments I’ll admit, I’m finding this book a bit too complicated for me. Slang, lingo of the post WWII ear, regional terms, and dialog that doesn’t go into depth but just bounces along without clarification (Nicko and Alison)

It also mentions geographic areas, schools, war efforts, political groups, foreign phrases… again over my head. Fowles has a deeeep vocabulary. I wish I could appreciate it.

I’ll keep going for a while. I’m sure a more knowledgeable reader would get much more from this story.

Jenna thats how I felt about Ficciones.
But Im proud that your still trying to get it to make sense.

No one will blame you if you have to give up on it either. Some books are just not made for everyone.
Well that is my thought anyways!

Thomas Engelhardt (tommo76) | 7 comments I finished the Magus last week. I did enjoy reading it, but it was quite a tough book to read, especially for a non-native English speaker. And I am not sure if I completely understood the ending, so I might have to reread it at one point.

I haven't read The Magus, but I know on second reading of other books, I gained a better understanding of the book. I usually waited a number of years before the second reading to experience the book in a different way.
