So I'm not Christian...but I think I mentioned here in this group. If we turned into a Christian society I wouldn't oppose it.

That moment when you think you’re having a friendly debate with someone, but it turns out they are highly personally invested in the topic and badmouths you something fierce behind your back to a bunch of people, like you're an utter demon but you were nice the whole time…

Awfully specific I know. I won’t say who it was or what group (not this one) or what topic, or give any hints to what it was (they didn’t name me but the topic was very clear and specific). I won’t be so specific.

I don’t fault the person (I won’t even specify gender) at all for demonizing me, it’s just that some of these people forget Im a human too. I try my absolute best to be as cordial and respectful in debates, even when they get nasty toward me, and for them to turn around and demonize me afterward is just a little perturbing.

Sorry for this but I don’t have any place to rant, so I picked this lol. If it’s disapproved of I’ll delete it, I assure you I’ll understand. And I’m not trying to start anything or whatever, if chaos ensues I’ll take the initiative and delete it, I just wanted to rant real quick.

aw i'm sorry that happened to you, you've always been very respectful when i've debated you. i understand getting emotionally invested in a topic and getting fired up about it (which i'm definitely guilty of) but the best thing to do imo is just pause the debate and step away. you seem very well-meaning and that definitely wasn't called for, i'm sorry :((

I did not spread misinformation… how else was I supposed to perceive that? I apologized to you right there in the journal and you deleted my reply, but not the bad comments about me, which I felt was kind of messed up because I felt you didn’t let me have that dignity of apologizing.

And I said that I really don’t mind the comments, but it disturbs me that I was made out to be an awful person when I tried everything not to be. I said several times I wasn’t trying to be offensive. I don’t know what else I was supposed to do. Shut up? It was a debate, putting down the opposition with “you're being offensive” is just not really satisfactory enough to me to make me say “ok, yeah Im wrong.”

Just saw this, actually it was on your profile, but I check the journal sometimes to see how Syd is doing since she’s a friend. I had a hunch, after you said you were leaving the debate because you were getting emotional, that you might say something about it elsewhere, and I was right. Idk my intuition can be spot on sometimes.

It’s been updated with your most recent comment, but yeah it was there, otherwise I wouldn’t have seen it. And I explained why I saw it. Am I not allowed to look at someone’s profile? It’s not set to private. I wasn’t “poking around,” I was literally just curious to see if you mentioned our debate elsewhere and saw you did. I don’t understand the issue, truly.

Thought I’d check real quick and saw this. No I wasn’t stalking, I actually look at everyone’s profiles that I debate with because I like to know who I’m debating. And my profile is always public so anyone can do the same.

There are many religions that don't believe in God? Or believe in multiple gods? Also your pledging that the U.S. was made under Christianity which it was not completely

It's probably uncomfortable for people who do not believe in god to say it so they shouldn't have to

thanks for elaborating lol i definitely didnt know what was happening as i only knew her side of the story so i was just going off of that

Barnette vented in their own personal journaling space, in a group she didn’t think you were in, and they did it without naming anyone. She didn’t gossip or spread hate or anything, again, it was a vent . Whereas you decided to go to the main chat of a group you knew she was in to vent. That’s a massive difference.
Going onto her journal to ‘see if she’d say anything about the debate/you’ (paraphrasing) is just plain weird. Whichever way you phrase it, you went on to their profile to look at their update feeds and joined a mental health group specifically to comment on her mental health journal which is again, weird. They deserve to have a safe space to share all their thoughts without someone else starting drama in it. Barnette was aware that she was getting heated during the debate and stepped back, which is respectful and mature.
And also, not all of her anger was directed at you? They know some furries/therians personally, and there is a lot of horrendous hatred online towards them that we have both witnessed, and she was just understandably worked up about how disrespectfully therians/furries are treated in general, and vented about it.

I think I should elaborate on why I saw the journal since this became a much bigger issue than I could have ever anticipated. I knew she had one because I glance at it occasionally, just like I look at Sai's occasionally and Syd's and Tessie's relatively often, though Tessie doesn't seem to post in it anymore.

I check them because, believe it or not, I am indeed capable of caring about other human beings, even if I disagree with them, and I knew Barnette has some issues of her own. So when she told me she was getting emotional about the debate, I wondered if she said anything about it, because I started to get concerned that she was very upset but just not saying so.

So I looked, and there it was, but I didn't realize she would speak so negatively of me personally (no she did not name me, but the details made it obvious what and who it was about). So then I got offended and commented, a grave mistake, saying it was interesting to see someone talk about me, but regardless I was very sorry I made her so upset and had never intended to. I thought I was doing the right thing by apologizing right there in the journal. I wanted to make amends, that's truly all, and I did not realize she would consider it an infringement of privacy since it's publicly available for all to see. Don't worry, I won't look at it anymore, but I deserve to explain myself.
