Jane (PS) | 24557 comments 1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

2. Linguist (Captain) - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)

3. Name your team. Using this round's theme, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 6 November

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2. (It will also help with one of the categories in this round!)

5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!

* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.

You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.

I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.

Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation, etc.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A | Announcements thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

Jane (PS) | 24557 comments Key selection and completion post information. You must have ALL elements in your book posts.

For selection post Option 1 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please note which qualifying bookshelf/list you are using or the tags that justifies that it works.
If the theme is based off the bookcover, post the cover. If there is a letter count in the title, publication date etc, please note these details.

For selection post Option 2 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.

For selection post Option 3 you must have:
Week #
PASS

For the completion post you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review

Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.

If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.

IF YOU NEED TO CORRECT A POST FOR MISSING INFORMATION or because the didn't qualify etc, please REPOST this information in a NEW post, particularly when the request is more than a day old. Its difficult to find older posts when going backwards in the threads.

Hazel (x1f4d6hx1f4d6) | 3001 comments 🎤📣Homophones 📣🎤
Words that are pronounced the same, but spelt differently and have a different meaning

**Only one of each homophone has the task designed around it. I'm unsure if some nationalities pronounce some of these words differently, so apologies in advance if that is the case.**

The usual bookcover, precis, main page, tag or list will need to be provided to show how the book qualifies EXCEPT for task 9 which will operate on an honour system with me likely doing some random checks to make sure everyone understands the process.

1. Sea | See - read a book with glasses or sunglasses on the cover.

2. Bear | Bare - read a book where the cover model is half-naked.

3. Hear | Here - read a book available in audio.

4. Birth | Berth - read a book with kids or pregnancy in the story.

5. Mail | Male - read a book with a male cover model.

6. Canon | Cannon - read a book with MPG Military or Suspense.

7. Creak | Creek - read a book with ghosts per the precis or with tags 'ghost' or 'spook', or MPG Horror.

8. Hole | Whole - read a book from a series that is complete. For this to count, there must be NO unpublished books on the series list.

9. Incite | Insight - go to My Books. Scroll down to My Year In Books and click. Record the avg page length. Read a book that is +/-50 pages of that page length. Eg avg page length is 240. Read a book that has a page length between 190 and 290 (inclusive). Please note - the minimum page number requirement of 100 pages must still be met.

10. Week | Weak - read a book with a non-alpha MC.

11. Eight | Ate - read a book with at least one 8 in the publication date.

12. Blew | Blue - read a book with blue on the cover.

13. Cell | Sell - read a book tagged 'crime', 'prison', 'lawman' 'law enforcement', 'LEO'. These words are the ONLY tags that will work. They may appear in combination with another word but it must complement that word, not contradict the meaning.

14. Knows | Nose - read a book where the nose of the cover models is shown. This can be in profile or front on, but the whatever the angle, the nose must be completely included.

15. Won | One - read a standalone book.

16. Hour | Our - read a book that is found on one of the RRRC Moderator's shelves.

17. To | Too | Two - read a book written by two authors or a book with an audio version that utilises two narrators.

18. New | Knew - read a book first published in 2025.

19. Rain | Reign - read a book with MPG historical.

20. Tail | Tale - read a shifter book or a book with a pet (must be stated in the precis or on the GR book page eg MPG shapeshifter).

Hazel (x1f4d6hx1f4d6) | 3001 comments Hi Everyone

I’m Hazel from Glasgow Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. I work in HR and live with my husband, teenage son, 1 dog and 1 cat. I love football ⚽️ 🏉 (Soccer and NFL) and read anything except horror although I prefer a romance element somewhere in the plot.

I’ve been a captain quite a few times in this challenge but took a break and was a normal team member for the last few rounds. I’m looking forward to playing with you all.

Please read Jane’s message in group 2 and an ask from me is that you make sure notifications are turned on for this thread.
I don’t know where you are all located yet but as I’m in Scotland we go by GMT so I am usually 5 hours ahead of EST (our clocks changed last week so I’m only 4 hours ahead at the moment). The calls are normally made 9-11pm my time and I will usually be awake.

Please post a broken link in your selection post. You can do this by inserting an * or a space in the book link after the first bracket. This makes it so much easier for me to copy the exact book edition you read in the tracking posts. Example:
normal book link: Love on the Brain
broken link: [*book:Love on the Brain|59571699]

Group name ideas are always welcome. I have some to start us off. Please add your own or say if you like one of the ones someone else has posted as our first job is to get the team name picked and to Jane by Thursday.

Sunflower Reads | 139 comments Hi Hazel! Hi Team!

It's nice to meet you Hazel.

I'm Sunny from Canada 🇨🇦. (I go by EST.) I have 1 dog (who isn't feeling so well these days). I mostly read romance novels. And I am very much looking forward to reading with everyone.

Full disclosure, I am kind of new-ish to these reading challenges - this will be my 3rd. I did the Bachelor Team Challenge 2 months ago, I am currently playing in the Amazing Race Team Challenge, and now about to start this one. I will try to catch on quickly but I may have questions here and there. 😊🙏

I have turned on notifications for this thread. I usually try to put a link to the exact edition I read but I will try to remember to pop that asterisk in my completion posts.

As for group names, I really like Tail as old as Thyme.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1211 comments Hi I'm Danielle from Arizona (We don't do daylight savings so I'm 2 hours from EST now). I am an empty nester now (was a single mom) but both my kids are off at college. I work from home and I travel as much as I can. I am currently in Salem for Halloween and heading home tomorrow.

I read 95% MM almost any sub genre except YA and super dark books. My favorite genre is fantasy/paranormal romance.

Avigail (avigailr) | 679 comments Hello team,

My name is Avigail, and I am from Israel. I am 6 hours ahead of EST and 2 hours ahead of GMT. I know Hazel well from other reading challenges, and I am happy to meet you and make new friends.
I read everything that falls into my hands and in the four languages I speak (English, Greek, Hebrew & Spanish).

I like Hazel's group name, Once Upon a Thyme, and I want to suggest one too.
"Whole Lotta Books, a Hole Left Unread "
We can pick the group name that received the most votes.

I pressed the button to receive notifications when we get new posts in this group.

I am looking forward to having fun with our team.

Looking forward to reading together in this challenge! 🤗

Hazel (x1f4d6hx1f4d6) | 3001 comments Hi Team,

I’ve updated message 11 with the suggested team name.
Message 12 is a link to all of our read books if you are choosing option 2. I’m also going to add in the RRRC mod links in case that theme is called.

Ive played various challenges with everyone except Sunny and Emeli and I’ve sent out friend requests.

Sunny I’m sorry your dog isn’t feeling too well, is it age or a medical condition? Don’t worry about being new-ish, we all were new at one point. If you managed Bachelor and Amazing Race then you will find this one super easy and relaxed. You only need to read one book per week for starters and the main difference is you write a review when you do your completion post. I’m here to help with any questions and I’m sure the others will as well.

Danielle how do you find being an empty nester? My son is 16 so I think I have a few more years of him at home but I don’t know what I would do with my time. I would love to go to Salem, I love witchy things but I’m also terrified of scary things so might freak out!

Avigail I like your name suggestion and have added it to the list - well done.

Looking forward to playing this round with you all and hopefully clearing some of my backlog!

message 19: by Sunflower Reads (new)

Sunflower Reads | 139 comments Thanks Hazel. The vet ran a bunch of tests, but we still don’t really know what’s causing it. They did find he has anemia, though. He’s getting up there in years, about 11-12, even though he’s always acted like a total pup, so age is probably a big part of it. It all came on so suddenly over the past week and a half. He was perfectly fine and then he just stopped wanting to walk or eat or play, which are usually his favorite things. He’s on steroids and a few meds now, and he’s slowly getting better, just not quite back to himself yet. Praying and hoping.

And thanks for the reassurance about the game. 😊🙏🙏

Shelby (stang_lee) | 2011 comments Hey all, I'm Shelby. I've played with most of you I think in some challenge or other over the years. I'm the furthest away time wise it looks like as I'm out in LA and thus PST (since our clocks change here in about 25min. 🤪 Yes, I'm up at super weird hours as I both work in film, thus don't keep a regular time schedule, (especially at the moment as one of my producing partners has been in Europe for the last 2 months and that has really played with our time issues) and am an AuDHD insomniac who struggles with sleep in the first place.

I'm an avid reader and I'll read pretty much anything though I tend to read more romance than anything else and lean heavily MM a lot of the time. Still have a number of MF books on my TBR as well though.

I'm happy with any team name that people like. Now I'm going to attempt to get a little sleep before I get up in the morning to spend my day watching football as my Dodgers (ok they're my secondary team, but still) just won the World Series and baseball is over for the year. I'm a diehard Seattle sports fan (Mariners #1 in baseball even though they broke my heart this year) so I'll be all in on my Seahawks tomorrow and have my fantasy teams going all day too so, yeah basically right now Sunday's are football. ;)

I read mm but once in a blue moon i read mf

message 22: by Hazel (new)

Hazel (x1f4d6hx1f4d6) | 3001 comments Shelby I hope you managed to get some sleep. It’s great in the UK we are getting more NFL games. I think I can see 3-4 games every Sunday when last year it was only 1-2 games. I’ve caught bits of the Vikings and lions today while I was doing housework and I’m going to do my ironing while watching the Chiefs and Bills. The Chiefs have been my team for about 5 or 6 years now. I think because I could see more of their games because they were doing well.

Emeli welcome to the team. That’s serious surgery you’ve had, I hope you’re still taking it easy.

We have all checked in We now need to pick a name from one of the ones listed in message 11 Can you let me know which one you vote for and I can let Jane know. Thanks

Thanks team

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1211 comments Salem was an interesting place to be for Halloween. Not as amazing as they make it sound - a lot of stuff is super hyped and it's actually kind of lame. They had this whole psychic fair and I was picturing 15 to 20 psychics all in there own little area and you could walk in and pick one who did the type of reading you wanted. In reality it was in the mall with a bunch of tables shoved together and only 2 psychics. So stuff like that was a bit disappointing. The witch's ball was pretty cool though and I'm still glad I did it as it's been a bucket list item for awhile.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1211 comments Hazel,

It took a bit of time getting used to the house being so quiet. My house was the house my daughter and her friends hung out in so usually I had 5-6 teens hanging around. But I do enjoy not having anyone else to pick up after and I am traveling a lot more these days. I do at least 1 trip per quarter so that's nice. My daughter makes it home about every other month and my son came home in October for my birthday. Will be home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I go out to Washington DC at least once a year to see him as well.

So all in all it took a bit to get used to it but I'm enjoying this new adventure in my life.

I can imagine they would play up on the history. Sorry it didn’t live up to the hype for you Danielle. I can’t imagine my house without my son - my life at the moment is facilitating his sports and social life and shouting at him to study or to wake up! He has a couple of tough school years ahead and managed to do well last year with little effort but this year the grades will determine what he can study and where he can study for university (if he decides that’s his path).

Sunny my neighbours dog is a 6 year old Tibetan terrier and was diagnosed with anaemia and they can’t find the cause. They thought they were going to lose her but she is still here. They had her on a lot of steroids and managed to wean her off them but she is back on 2-3 a day to keep her bloods steady which is good news. I hope you also have a positive journey.

message 32: by Hazel (new)

Hazel (x1f4d6hx1f4d6) | 3001 comments Avigail no need to apologise. With 4 votes that name had the majority.

We are ahead of the game with our team named and in a good position to start the challenge.

I still need to link Emeli and Shelby’s read shelf in my post which I will do tomorrow. A Wednesday is my non working day but can be the most hectic day of the week for me as I look after my niece and nephew who are 5 and almost 4. I pick them up from school and nursery and then it’s chaos, made worse when their cousin comes home and winds them up.

Review: Since I was in the middle of reading a few heavier books, I wanted a cozy romantasy as a palette cleanser, and Must Love Moss & Moonshine by Maisy Magill was exactly what I needed. This prequel novella to the Moonshine Hollow series follows Tansy, a Sylvan elf who crafts enchanted jewelry, and Kellen, a lonely dryad who protects the forest near Moonshine Hollow. Their connection forms quickly—perhaps a bit too quickly for my taste—but given the novella’s brevity, the fast pace works. The fall ambiance and magical forest setting create a cozy, heartwarming atmosphere, and the mischievous fantastical creatures add extra charm and comfort while reading.

Magill uses familiar romantasy tropes like memory loss and insta-love but wraps them in a whimsical, gentle tone that feels like stepping into a mossy, moonlit forest. The story focuses less on complex world-building and more on emotional warmth, healing, and connection. As a prequel, it beautifully sets the stage for what promises to be a delightful series, hinting at deeper relationships and richer stories to come. Must Love Moss & Moonshine is a short, soothing escape—an enchanting and cozy read that’s perfect for when you need something light between heavier books.

Review: I love an enemies to lovers romance and this one was even better as it was a lovers to enemies to lovers romance. I’m not a fan of Christmas stories which this was but I really enjoyed it.
Holiday and Lucas were childhood sweethearts until she left to pursue her culinary career. Returning home to lick her wounds after her engagement ended, she ends up running the bakery on the Jolly Christmas tree farm and seeing Lucas every day. He doesn’t make it easy on her but that sizzling hate doesn’t take long to turn to lust. I have loved every book in this series and really anything written by Lyra Parish.

Review: I enjoyed getting back to Sawyer and Royce in this new spinoff series. This book was more about their relationship and impending parenthood then the mystery. I liked seeing more of them but I felt like the mystery got a little short changed and wrapped up really quickly. But I adore these two characters and I'm looking forward to reading book #2 in this series.
