Lynnette | 337 comments One of my book club members always says "life is too short for a bad book." I am a DNFer, but my bestie will struggle through anything.

Question of the hour: are you willing to DNF a book or once started do you force yourself to finish?
If you don't finish all books what is the last book that you DNFed?
My latest DNF: Small Country by Gaël Faye

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1531 comments If I know for sure that I hate the writing style or something about the book, I generally have no issues letting it go and DNFing

The last one I DNF was a book club book actually - The Bane Witch

Vavita | 187 comments It takes me a long time but if at 50% I am still struggling, then I quit.

My last dnf was You Weren't Meant to Be Human

Jen Scott | 50 comments I hate it, but I struggle to DNF books! I wish I could, but once I've started, it's hard for me to stop because "what if it gets better" hahaha.

My last DNF was One Hundred Years of Solitude

message 5: by Claudia (new)

Claudia Hauter | 24 comments I also force myself through everything. If the book is bad, I try to finish it as quickly as possible just to get it over and out of my life. If it's just something that's a bit slow or not to my taste I'll dip in and out until it's finally done.

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 232 comments I tend to eventually finish every book I start. I can't help myself. I just keep thinking "it may get better" and worrying that I miss out on a fantastic ending, etc.

However, if a book is not connecting with me I am not shy about putting it back on my shelf or pile by my bed and picking up something else instead that is catching my interest. I eventually go back to the book I put down, BUT it may be a while before I do.

The most recent to get "re-shelved" without finishing is Voracious: A Hungry Reader Cooks Her Way through Great Books by Cara Nicoletti

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 73 comments My last DNF was Autumn in Sycamore Park.

I do DNF books, especially if I feel like I'm wasting time. :)
Because life is indeed very short.

Vicki Willis | 555 comments I have not DNF'd a book since I joined Goodreads until today.
This is a great question for me because I am reading a free book I got when I first got a kindle and picked up dozens of "FREE" books. It is a terrible book and I am dreading it, so I am going to DNF it right now. I am at 35% so I gave it a good chance and I don't care how it is going to finish.
I think I am going to feel great! Hopefully I don't go back and force myself to read the rest of it.

DNF'd A Rush to Violence by Christopher Smith A Rush to Violence

Cathy (cathepsut) | 636 comments I used to be a struggler, but life is indeed too short. If it‘s a buddy read, I will make an effort to at least skim through it.

So far I DNFd 7 books this year. The latest one was Can't Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne.

My star rating is high because I read all the expected books, the known and appreciated books. Someone called me out reading all the expected books, so I have tried more books. I find I have an appreciation of books outside my comfort zone, find things to appreciate about good books that I do not like. I seriously appreciate and find worthwhile The Buffalo Hunter Hunter, but I cannot say I like it. I almost DNFed it. But I was too curious to stop.

Sonya | 31 comments This varies for me. Sometimes I force myself but this year I feel like I have so much to do that there is no point trying to read something I'm not interested in. My most recent DNF is Cupcake Cottage.

message 12: by Ann A (new)

Ann A (readerann) | 906 comments I can only think of one DNF in the past several years (and it was difficult to allow myself to give up). That was Black Leopard, Red Wolf. I just couldn't.

Vanessa Dargain | 521 comments HAWAII by James Michener . It is a long long story.
I thought I could tackle it , but I chumped out after
reading 440 of the 1036 total pages .
Maybe I'll finish the other 600+ pages , maybe not .
It's a great story , but it's long .

Lamilla | 861 comments My reading life became much easier when I started DNFing books. The last one: Уроки химии by Bonnie Garmus by Bonnie Garmus. It was a buddy read of a hyped book and I completely misjudged the genre :D
I enjoyed reading the comments in the buddy read thread nevertheless!
