Once a cold case now a solved serial killer.. Jack The Ripper.

“Jack the Ripper, pseudonymous murderer of at least five women in or near the Whitechapel district of London’s East End between August and November 1888. The case is one of the most famous unsolved mysteries of English crime.”

Jack the Ripper is the name given to an unknown serial killer who terrorized London’s Whitechapel district in 1888. The killer is believed to have murdered at least five women, all of whom were prostitutes, in a series of brutal attacks marked by severe mutilations. These murders shocked the public due to their gruesome nature and the apparent skill and cruelty of the killer. Despite extensive investigations by the police and widespread media attention, the identity of Jack the Ripper was never discovered, leaving the case unsolved and shrouded in mystery.

The Ripper’s crimes had a profound impact on Victorian society, exposing the harsh realities of poverty and crime in the East End of London. The sensational nature of the murders fueled public fear and fascination, leading to numerous theories and suspects over the years. Jack the Ripper became an infamous figure in criminal history, representing the dangers lurking in the shadows of a rapidly changing city, and his story continues to captivate and mystify people more than a century later.

It wasn’t until 2014 that a suspect identified as Aaron Kosminsk, from a shaw that was left at one of the crime scenes, is highly suspected to be the Jack The Ripper

♪‧◃✮ɴɪᴍʙᴜs✮▹‧♪ | 15 comments There's been a lot of criticism and debate on whether or not Aaron Kosminsk was actually Jack The Ripper. Officials haven't confirmed this and question the evidence because of the use of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) [1] and potential contamination. Officials argue that many people can have the exact same mtDNA profiles so it really only excludes people instead of specifically pinpointing a person. The shawl that was used as evidence was also wondered to even be Catherine Eddowes since it's not mentioned in contemporary police records and was not stored as forensic evidence which allowed for over a century of contamination from people who have touched it since the murder. Even if the shawl was touched by Aaron Kosminsk, his DNA on it really only proves he made contact with her at some point, and considering that the victims often engaged in sex work, it's seen as not suspicious. There's probably a whole lot more on this guy but I haven't done too deep of a dive into it, sadly- if anyone's got anything else that talks about Aaron Kosminsk actually being Jack The Ripper, I'd love to read about it. It's honestly mind-boggling how this case has been unsolved for so long and we're just now finding more 'evidence'.
