Linda C (libladynylindac) | 1823 comments Emily Wilde is a Cambridge professor in the field of Dryadology, the study of faeries. She is writing an Encyclopaedia of such and needs one last group to complete it, the Hidden Ones, who are likely to be located near Hrafnsvik in Ljosland, due north of the UK.

This book is written in journal form. The first part of the book is very detailed and does a great job of outlining Emily’s career and personality, her status and relationships with colleagues, and her impressions of the village and villagers and surroundings. Some reviewers felt this slowed the book, but I loved the detail. I felt this detail gave me a perfect basis for understanding Emily’s actions in the rest of the book.

I loved her relationship with Wendell. She accepted him for what he was and only took from him what she couldn’t do for herself. And I did like the fact that the villagers cracked her shell a bit and drew out some emotion by the end.

Definitely looking forward to the next volume in the series.
