I really liked this book and how it brings up how Indigenous people have been treated and viewed throughout history.

All in all, I really liked this book and how it addressed different topics.

I was really looking forward to this one, it sounded so unique! But the execution was a bit... meh. For one, the explaination of the dragon's magic was so technical that I was having problems understanding it. It wasn't until the book was almost over that I felt a had a grasp on what they were talking about.
Also, the main character was a bit too perfect, which is always an issue that I have with various FMCs. Whether she was talking to her family about the Anglish, or talking to the Anglish about her family, she was correct and don't argue with her about it.
Now, I did enjoy the end, and I plan to borrow the sequel from my library when it comes out. I did like the representation of indigenous, queer, and neurodivergent individuals (though it did feel forced at times), and want to know what will happen to them in the end.
Plus I can't wait to see how Kasaqua grows up! She was my favorite part of this book!
I enjoyed reading this book I agree that the main character could be viewed as too perfect, but I think the book does a good job addressing some of the issues that indigenous people have faced throughout time. I was hoping for a little more dragon parts of the story. Sander was one of my favorite characters. Maybe because he had so many personal issues that he was persevering through. He was also so kind.
The description of Apoque’s people sound like a more ideal society and it made me question if there were cultures who seemed to be so accepting of everything and everyone (except perhaps people who left the community and the Anglish). It would be nice if people were so accepting.
In sum, it was thought provoking and a good book. I hope there is more focus on the dragons in the next book.

I also liked how it addressed issues Indigenous People have suffered throughout history! I think the following books will be more about the dragons since they were leading into the importance and history of the dragons. I sort of felt like it was information for the next book. I hope so anyway!!!

I'm a little over half way through and I really love it so far! I do have a couple of nitpicks but basically I pretty much mirror what everyone else has been saying! I know it's too early to have a final judgement but I would have ate this up as a 12-16 year old. Will come back once I'm done but yeah, really like it so far!Update: I finished! I really did enjoy it but I think this suffered a little due to the middle slowing down so much in the middle. I also think maybe some plot points could have happened in book 2 (since this is a series). Overall though, I had a good time!
