October: Author You've Been Afraid to Read

I had the best of intentions to tackle John Green and his tearjerkers in October. Things got derailed by a death in the family. I decided to try audiobooks and checked one out from the library. Then I discovered that I accidentally checked out the e-book as opposed to the e-audiobook. I can't read a whole book on my phone. So, I failed at this prompt.

I thought about reading Atlas Shrugged, but I'm not afraid of reading Rand, exactly. I'm just annoyed that I feel like I should read it so I can rant properly. (I do already own a copy that is so old that I have no idea where it came from, so rest assured I did not spend money on it.)
Then I thought about reading Eric LaRocca, but after sampling one of his books several months ago, I was still too scared to try again.
So I went with Alice by Christina Henry. It's essentially Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland / Through the Looking-Glass but Alice is in hell instead. It is pretty dark and violent and gruesome but not nearly as extreme as I was expecting. I would recommend it with the warning that the Jabberwock is consistently called "the Jabberwocky." How'd that get through editing??
