This book is a collection of Lenten homilies on Genesis by then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger read in 1981 at the Liebfrauenkirche (Church of our Beloved Lady) in Munich. Giving a series of themed homilies or lectures is something he did on a regular basis to give the faithful a deeper understanding of the topic. Other such collections are Christian Brotherhood, The God of Jesus Christ: Meditations on the Triune God, and The Blessing of Christmas: Meditations for the Season. Later as Pope Benedict XVI he did the long series on the Apostles and the Church Fathers as well as one on Prayer. Looking over my bookshelf, I don't think I ever read the one on prayer.

For our schedule we have four homilies and an appendix, five weeks in total. We'll start the discussion November 16th.

Week 1: 9 - 15 Nov: Preface & First Homily - God the Creator
Week 2: 16 - 22 Nov: Second Homily - The Meaning of the Biblical Creation Accounts
Week 3: 23 - 29 Nov: Third Homily - The Creation of the Human Being
Week 4: 30 Nov - 6 Dec: Fourth Homily - Sin and Salvation
Week 5: 7 - 13 Dec: Appendix - The Consequences of Faith in Creation

Thanks Kerstin. I’ve begun and the book has already grabbed me! Ratzinger, he wasn’t Pope yet when he gave these homilies, always seems to take an idea further than others.
