15.1 Polar to Peak

The main types of tundra are arctic tundra and Alpine Tundra. The Arctic Tundra is a desert with permafrost and is often referred to as the polar desert.
The Alpine Tundra is found at high elevations in mountains with harsh cold conditions.

This is a two book task,

Book 1: Read a book where all the letters of Polar Desert can be found in the title/subtitle/author name.
and
Book 2: Read a book that is set at least 50% in one of these mountain ranges that have alpine tundra or set in "snowy mountain location"
North American Cordillera mountains, Appalachian mountains, the Alps, Pyrenees mountains, the Himalaya Mountains, Karakoram mountain range, the Andes, the Eastern Rift mountains, the Snowy Mountains, and the Scandinavian Mountains.
Required: If the setting is not evident from the Goodreads main page, provide a reference.

Many thanks

Change of book as I've found out my copy isn't around. So I wondered if this would be ideal for book 1: Falling Apart and Other Gifts from the Universe - Catherine Ryan Hyde

Many thanks

Spring Girls - set in Appalachian foothills -- not sure if this meets the intent of the task

As long as you can account for the letters in Polar Desert, a book would work.

Approved

Joanne (joabroda1) | 1622 comments No, the foothills are not part of the mountains

foothills are not mountains; they are lower hills or rolling terrain that are found at the base of a mountain range, acting as a transition zone between flat land and higher elevations

The task specifically asks for the setting to be in the mountains.

Bearer of Bad News - from the description - a mysterious job that takes her though the Italian Dolomites

from my googling, the dolomites are part of the Alps range in Italy - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolomites

does that work?

Yes that would work. If you add the info to your claim post, it would help the reviewing mod greatly. :)

"From the austere mountaintops of northern Sweden"

Does this work for Scandinavian Mountains?

I just wanted to get these two confirmed that you're happy they're both set in the Himalayas.

Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Everest Disaster, Jon Krakauer
POLAR: PeRsOnAL
DESERT: EveREST Disaster

Thin Air, Michelle Paver
Setting stated in the GR description as The Himalayas, 1935

Thanks.

Yes, I would say both yours and Trish' s are approved.

Robin P | 1717 comments Les flammes de pierre - "Flames of Stone" apparently hasn't been translated into English. The first line of the GR description says "Rémy et Laure partageaient le sommet de Croisse-Baulet : - Remy and Laure (the hero and heroine) shared the summit of Croisse-Baulet. I looked up that name and found it is in the Alps. Most of the book takes place in the area. I just wanted to get it approved here - thanks!
