Looking for a middle grade fantasy adventure book. The first book in the series had a blue or blue-green cover; i cant remember the title but it may have been something about a map, or strange/impossible places. The MC was the kid of archaeologists or ecologists who got spirited away after a parking lot turned into a river and a ship appeared. The water of the magical river could change you as well. She made friends with a thief called Fin, and there was a hunt for some treasure or maybe pieces of a map/compass. There was one part in the book where they traveled to a giant ice fortress nd there was a caterpillar like grumpy creature. There were pirates and a lot of the ship crew wasn't human.
